Stop making sense

This week, Bill Kristol wrote one of the MSM’s wisest assessments of the Democratic primaries, and Peggy Noonan’s commentary about Reverend Wright is downright thoughtful.

on Noonan--

she ignores very American collective rituals to her detriment—shaming, pronouncing things that conflict with the “we’re the good guys” myths absolutely unacceptable—and painting those who dare state them publicly as crazy, building celebrities up to knock them down later, the inevitable and expected exposure of skeletons in politician’s closets, …

and her likening Wright to “old country” tribal and historical bonding things completely ignores the present-day ongoing realities and inequities Wright discusses—she does what Obama did in his “historic” speech: falsely paint him as a relic of bygone days as if he’s a old 78 recording from the attic, instead of a living active person with really big demands and responsibilities.

If someone would have told me a year ago

Oh for Pete's Sake, It isn't More Trustworthy

Noonan is laying back because the rest of the media is doing her work for her. She likes the velvet glove bit, she likes to sound reasonable. Check out the column she wrote before this one - also from this week, or maybe last Friday, in which she finds such a special way to question Obama’s patriotism.

And notice how if Hillary wins because of the Wright mess, oh it will be so bad for poor Hillary, there will be blood. Except it isn’t the Clintons pushing this one about Wright, it’s in many cases Obama supporters who decided it was okay to throw Wright on the nearest trash can. And how patronizing is she towards Wright? What the hell has Peggy Noonan ever accomplished in life that even begins to compare with Wright’s biography

Noonan exists in two states:

Idiotic, and preparing to be idiotic.

Greenwald has some fun with her blather, while reducing Brian Williams to a quivering lump of gelatin. An entertaining read, if only it weren’t so depressing.

Wright and Noonan

“What the hell has Peggy Noonan ever accomplished in life that even begins to compare with Wright’s biography.”

They’ve both propelled glib, vacuous, Republican-admiring “transformative” politicians into national office, and both have offended my sense of patriotism (though Noonan, of course, has accomplished that infinitely more).

Oh, and they’ve both gotten rich by spinning bullshit (though Wright, of course, mixes a lot more truth in).

Noonan is no more or less trustworthy....

… than the rest of the Village. (I saw a comment on TalkLeft the other day that, what the heck, why not admit FOX to the pantheon of “legitimate” [cough] news sources. It’s not like they’re any worse than CNN or especially MSCNBC, right?)

Anyhow, though I doubt Kristol is wise about anything, one of Noonan’s sentences did resonate with me:

So here I will talk not about how people will respond to him but how I do.

Which is what made this column above the usual grade for her. I wish more of our pundits would do that; I’m so tired of having things imputed to me, especially this election, where nobody knows anything.

gotta hate that colored guy - no wonder fox makes sense

This week, Bill Kristol wrote one of the MSM’s wisest assessments of the Democratic primaries, and Peggy Noonan’s commentary about Reverend Wright is downright thoughtful.

Of course, it it far more likely that Kristol and Noonan start making sense than it is that your obsessive hatred of the colored guy has made you confused. Right?

Of course I hate the colored guy

All Hillary supporters do.

I thought all the OFB understood that.

What’s wrong with you, rootless? Wait, don’t answer that.

Not all Hillary supporters - just the ones who like Fox

and you excuse votes for the iraq war, because well, because.
when Code Pink makes you angry
and you think Bill Ayers is toxic
and are troubled by association with Black Liberation theology
and Lani Guinier seems like a radical

You got the “I hate the colored feller” blues

Teh stupid! It b-u-r-n-s!

Stupid is the charitable explanation, of course.

Of course, VL, and I, said nothing like what you say we said.

Somebody remind me why I gave this troll his account back?

Wait, wait, I know. Clintonian Mind Control™ rays, beamed from Mount Evil, caused me to initiate a devious plot to discredit Obama by allowing one of his more trollish supporters to post again. I did that because I’m a racist. And I know I’m a racist because that’s the only reason nobody would support Obama. The OFB have told me a million times, but I keep forgetting. That’s no doubt a side effect of the beam.

rootless, you have definitely chosen the right candidate

When people disagree with you, you have no qualms about slandering them as racists.

i'm sure that I am missing the rational explanation

of why a bunch of self-labeled progressives and leftists find themselves allied with Sandy Weil, Scaife, Noonan, Kristol, Fox News, and so on against a black democrat who advocates horrible policies like removing the cap on social security taxes, public works programs, and oil company excess profits taxes. Why they find themselves more in tune with Fox and Friends than with KO or DailyKos. I’m sure that racism is the wrong explanation, but lack the imagination to come up with an alternative.

Silly rootless!

It’s because we’re racists! Don’t you understand?

Clue stick: Repeating your talking points won’t help you. We’ve heard them all, and refuted them endlessly. Like a classic troll, you refuse to engage. But then, why would anybody engage with racists? I really can’t see why you’re here, except to suck up bandwidth and waste our time — which you’re doing an excellent job of, by the way. Foolish of me to feed you, but there you are.

Maybe he gets a thrill down his leg?

Seriously, for the readers of this thread who aren’t trolls, let me try to interpret VL’s post:

What’s remarkable, after the last 8 years, is that some right wing commentators are actually less crazed than some Obama supporters. This is an amazing and revolting development. On the other hand, you might regard it as the first signs of Unity. Eh?

And at last ends the age of Obama
Away with all your superstitions

We’ll change henceforth the old tradition
And spurn the dust to win the prize.

So comrades, come rally
We line up with Sandy Weil’s stocks
The Internationale unites the human race.
So comrades, come rally
And all our Friends on Fox!

rootless, have you troubled by months and months...

If you couldn’t find much of any fair coverage of Obama from the so-called liberal media, wouldn’t you be struck when a usually horrid conservative commentator gets it right?

Also, the Noonan article I cited is sympathetic to both Rev. Wright and Obama. But I can see how that’s pretty racist, if you look at it just the right way.

i missed that

… of positive coverage of Obama by rightwing pundits, a trend which is just starting to subside?

Didn’t see it. I was not, however, tempted to agree with Fox and so on when they slammed Hillary. I don’t think she’s especially ambitious or duplicitous for a politician. I don’t care about fake tip controversies. I think Hillary’s laugh is generally quite appealing. Nothing that Noonan or Kristol or any of the others of that crew said appeared to me to be at all perceptive or honest or praiseworthy. If they praised Obama’s policies, I missed that. What did they like: opposition to the war? Lifting the SS tax cap? Public works and green energy?

Now that the MSM and FOX have realized that Obama actually could win the nomination and that he is a danger to republican supremacy far more than the DLC Senator, it’s not surprising that they are all Obama-hate all the time. What is also not surprising, but is sad, is how many of those who have become totally invested in Hillary’s campaign are following her along to Flag Amendment and Exxon Tax land.

Sorry, racists don't experience surprise or sadness

So we can’t share your important feelings, rootless. So sorry.

rootless, were you impressed with Obama's performance on Fox?

I was busy guzzling Chablis in my limo and inhaling the air that had been improved by the GOP’s environmental leadership, so I’ll have to defer to your report.

obama on fox

mediocre performance in my opinion. it’s unfortunate, but under the double team from close friends, Hil and McStain, and a sustained media attack, Obama has clearly been on the defensive.

here’s what i like: obama’s campaign is gearing up 50 state voter registration drives now while Hillary is explaining that John McCain has passed the leadership threshold and endorsing his exxon subsidy tax plan.

Let me ask you this. Have you watched the CodePink video of Hillary Clinton’s pre-war performance?

Poor wittle Obama! Somebody put him on the deFENsive!

Which would explain Barack “No Mas” Obama is ducking any more debates. What, he doesn’t want another 11 million audience? Why would that be?

Your approval of a ridiculous exercise in which we are treated to discussions of whether Obama was on a board with horrible weatherman bill ayers or how many flag lapel pins a real american should wear, is a sad commentary on your delirious state.

No moderator debate!!

Gee now wasn’t there a candidate that offered a no moderator debate?

Oh, right there was, and Obama turned it down, b/c he needed to get out of the studio, though he has time to go see Timmeh tomorrow.

And isn’t there a nationally televised town hall in IN tomorrow. Steph would be there, but the questions are from the audience. Or maybe Obama doesn’t want to address voters concerns, which may include flag pins and Rev. Wright.

No wonder Obama has no chance. You dissect his policy positions with such precision.

Rootless: Meaning Without Foundation

Lie down with trolls, get up with gremlins. Or something.

I’ve always disliked Obama not because he is “colored” but because he is a fraud. But the Obamabots are so desperate to be “inspired” they insist his snake oil really does grow hair (pointing at their own bald pates to prove it). But then historically people looking for “inspiration” or “transformation” in their politics are not only easily duped, but rather dangerous.

Barack "No Mas" Obama's positions are all on his web site

Who needs to dissect them?

Anyhow, I don’t care about policy, rootless. Racists don’t. Why can’t you understand that?

Rootless is such an object lesson. It’s like when the appropriate keyword is input, the appropriate talking point is emitted. Here, for example, the keyword was “debate,” and Barry “No Mas” Obama’s extremely presidential demonstration of how a new style of politics enables you to backpedal all over the ring to avoid one. Anyhow, given the keyword “debate” bot-like rootless copies and pastes:

Your approval of a ridiculous exercise in which we are treated to discussions of whether Obama was on a board with horrible weatherman bill ayers or how many flag lapel pins a real american should wear, is a sad commentary on your delirious state.

Except the Lincoln-Douglas style debate has no moderator; it’s on one, Hillary vs. Barry. So all the Gibsonian questions go away. Smarter trolls please.

god forbid we have inspirational politicians

But then historically people looking for “inspiration” or “transformation” in their politics are not only easily duped, but rather dangerous.

Exactly. Look at what trouble Tom Paine caused, not to mention Debs and FDR and MLK and John Lewis and Walter Reuther and RFK and Gene McCarthy and all those other effin “inspirational” and “transformational” troublemakers. Let’s stay with experience Leadership that has crossed the Leadership Threshold - like Hillary and John, by gad.

Let’s do some reality testing and accept an endless war in Iraq, NAFTA, and the deregulated financial markets because we don’t want to get all deluded with Mr. Hopey.

Please don't insult Obama's intelligence

He certainly is aware that America has only 48 states.

Except the Lincoln-Douglas

Except the Lincoln-Douglas style debate has no moderator; it’s on one, Hillary vs. Barry. So all the Gibsonian questions go away. Smarter trolls please.

I wonder how many times during this primary process you have congratulated yourself for your superior insight and analytical ability. 100,000? It’s as hard to count as the number of Iraqis who have died in Senator Clinton’s war - oh, I mean the opportunity for more negotiation she supported in the mis-titled AUTHORIZATION FOR THE USE OF MILITARY FORCE.

The Lincoln-Douglas debates are, however, viewable online and you can read there Stephan Douglas’s contributions to American political rhetoric.

Oh, we're back to Obama's...

Obama doesn’t know whether he would have voted for the AUMF. I, on the other hand, am pretty sure of how he would have voted. Aren’t you?

… tireless efforts to end the Iraq war by the brave and ingenious means of continually funding Bush’s occupation.

Well, lacking in your ability to mind-read, which you might have acquired from your close readings of Ms. Noonan, I have to go by the public record.

AUMF vote: Clinton YES. Obama speaks against

War support: Clinton YES. See her wonderfully respectful dressing down of the stupid bitches from CodePink or her speech to the CFR in which she congratulates the President on his Excellent War.

Iraq War Funding since 2005: Both Obama and Clinton have voted well and in the small senate minority that makes it clear why funding still gets passed.

Iran War: Clinton YES. Obama says no, misses vote.

The position Mrs. Clinton articulated in her CodePink interview is a comprehensive argument for American intervention in Iraq and elsewhere. She has not offered any indication that she has changed this long held position.

Of course, members of the HTCG Caucus have an uncanny ability to see that, if he had been in the Senate, Obama would have voted with Hillary against his earlier position and against Byrd and Feinstein, uh, just because. And they know this intuited vote balances Hillary’s actual vote, because, uh, because.

Teh stupid! It b-u-u-u-r-n-s!

I find Hillary inspirational. So do others. Sorry to set your straw man ablaze there, rootless. Smarter trolls, please.

My God, your rhetorical slashes are powerful. However, your quarrel is with the note submitted by tedraicer on Sat, 2008-05-03 13:11.

But then historically people looking for “inspiration” or “transformation” in their politics are not only easily duped, but rather dangerous.

I find Hillary inspirational too. The way she slapped down the NOW VP to explain that non-expert putz citizens who want peace and shit should STFU was exceptionally inspirational. She reminded me of Nixon.

So let rootless think he won and he’ll go back to wankfestivus for more programming.

why *ever* would I think there is racism ??

A “tell” with Obama was the unparallel logic of bringing his frail white grandma in as a shield to his obvious collusion with a racist and unpatriotic church.

Right! The UCC is racist and unpatriotic! Just like that great Patriotic Fox News Explains. Of course. Because ungrateful negroes are, by definition, playing the race card and engaging in racism, not to mention treason.

People who detect racism in such statements are trolls, axelrod employees, etc.

Oh, rootless, it's too too easy!

How can we ever have a national conversation on race

if we can’t ever mention race?

I guess Obama wanted a monologue instead of a dialogue.

He’d probably call it a soliloquy though.
