Giuliani Seeks to Combine Primaries & Presidential Election, All to be Held on 9/11

Oh, what, you don’t think he would?

Giuliani's Radios

Yesterday, Nicole Belle at Crooks & Liars put up a post up about former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and his actions regarding outfitting the FDNY with proper—and functional—radios. Motorola was given a no-bid contract to provide the city with said radios—when tested in 2001 the devices didn’t work, so the FDNY was once again stuck with radios that hadn’t worked properly during the first attack on the Twin Towers in 1993.

There is footage of Rudy declaring how the brave firemen “stood their ground” in the towers on that otherwise fair, late summer day known as 9/11—truth be known, if their radios had been working they would have obeyed orders to evacuate. It’s kind of like saying the passengers of the Titanic bravely drowned in freezing waters—had they been given life rafts, it’s rather likely they would have opted for survival, capiche?

When Rudy Giuliani trumpets his actions vis a vis 9/11 he outdoes Herod dancing naked on the graves of the Muses. Or maybe I dreamed it.  Read more

9/11 Officially Endorses Giuliani For President

(Jivester News, Lmtd.) The calendar date known as 9/11, which had previously distanced itself from being associated with any one political figure, has ended speculation as to who it would support (from among the many declared candidates for the office of the President of the United States) by declaring that Rudy Giuliani is the guy for it. 9/11, speaking at a calendar signing expo in Toronto, told the crowd of mostly polite Canadians that “…Rudy loves me and I love Rudy. And if I call Rudy, and he’s busy, he still picks up, because that’s how much he loves me.”  Read more

Remembering Chile, Thinking about Our Future

Aqui is an mp3 that is supposedly Allende’s last words. My Spanish really sucks, so I have no idea if it’s real. But I’m just going to run with the translation I found over at Moon of Alabama which is a really informative blog if you’ve not read it before and worth some time, particularly the comments, which are very lively and link-rich. Anyway, the coffee is just kicking in, and this made me really tear up:
Surely, this will be the last opportunity for me to address you. The Air Force has bombed the antennas of Radio Magallanes. My words do not have bitterness but disappointment. May they be a moral punishment for those who have betrayed their oath: soldiers of Chile, titular commanders in chief, Admiral Merino, who has designated himself Commander of the Navy, and Mr. Mendoza, the despicable general who only yesterday pledged his fidelity and loyalty to the Government, and who also has appointed himself Chief of the Carabineros [paramilitary police]. Given these facts, the only thing left for me is to say to workers: I am not going to resign!

Placed in a historic transition, I will pay for loyalty to the people with my life. And I say to them that I am certain that the seeds which we have planted in the good conscience of thousands and thousands of Chileans will not be shriveled forever. They have force and will be able to dominate us, but social processes can be arrested by neither crime nor force. History is ours, and people make history.

Workers of my country: I want to thank you for the loyalty that you always had, the confidence that you deposited in a man who was only an interpreter of great yearnings for justice, who gave his word that he would respect the Constitution and the law and did just that.  Read more

Republican playbook calls for new terror attacks in time for election 2008

What a surprise. Here’s Rick “Man on Dog” Santorum on eminent scholar Hugh Hewitt’s radio show. (via The Blogger in the Grey Turtleneck Bra (via Information Liberation:

[SANTORUM:] Between now and November, a lot of things are going to happen, and I believe that by this time next year, the American public’s going to have a very different view of this war, and it will be because, I think, of some unfortunate events, that like we’re seeing unfold in the UK. But I think the American public’s going to have a very different view….

(Love the Lemony Snicket reference!

But Rick, how would you know?

You know, I just hate to be cynical:  Read more

One Tough Mother

Victory! The Ragheads are done for, it’s clear.

(CBS/AP) The Pentagon has released a transcript of a military trial at Guantanamo Bay which says that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, a suspected mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks, has confessed to a leadership role in that attack and a string of others.

“I was responsible for the 9/11 operation from A to Z,” Mohammed is quoted as saying in a statement that was read Saturday at a session of his military trial.

I didn’t know they said “A to Z” in Arabic. But anyway, I’ll give him this much: he lasted four years of waterboarding, beatings, bad hairband metal blaring and buckets for toilets before breaking. That’s tough. At this rate, it’ll take us 10,000 years to win our Eternal Victory over the Towelheads.

The Never-Ending National Emergency

In the face of signing statements, torture, and lying us into war, I suppose it’s not that big a deal. But I recall reading in the past how keeping the nation in this state allows him to get around certain legal hurdles on his path to return America to monarchy.
However it may be, long live the Emergency!

Send The Bitch to Jail

I don’t know if there’s a chance this will really happen, but let’s hope some ambitious prosecutor decides to make some hay out of throwing this sell-out, lying bitch in the slammer. I just read yesterday that something like 7 out of 10 responders to 9/11 can’t be heard when they speak, their lungs are so fucked up:

Democrats from New York and New Jersey asked on Wednesday for an investigation that could lead to criminal charges against former Environmental Protection Agency administrator Christie Whitman for breathing problems suffered by thousands after the Sept. 11 attacks.  Read more

The Smallest Violin You'll Ever Hear Me Play

Here’s something you rarely get out of me. Brevity. I was travelling without computers this weekend, so I missed a lot of the blogosphere reaction to the ABC hatchet job on “9/11 = The Clenis.” But reading through a lot of the efforts, I’ve got to wonder how a coordinated blogswarm to make it instead the rallying cry for a national movement to turn it off would’ve gone. People wrote a lot of letters to uncaring executives on the Bush payroll, and media people who have exactly no motivation to be other than willing lapdogs. If instead they had begun conversations with their neighbors and friends, how could that have gone? And to what effect? Even shorter: what? you didn’t really expect the TV people to tell the truth about 9/11? Did you? ABC is one of the “free” networks, and in my world, you get what you pay for. There’s also the notion of GI/GO.  Read more

And speaking of 9/11 conspiracy theories

This just in from WaPo:

Some staff members and commissioners of the Sept. 11 panel concluded that the Pentagon’s initial story of how it reacted to the 2001 terrorist attacks may have been part of a deliberate effort to mislead the commission and the public rather than a reflection of the fog of events on that day, according to sources involved in the debate.  Read more
