Tim Russert is unhappy about what happened to Don Imus.

Not that this was expressed in so many precise words, but then when are the Beltway 500 ever able to excavate those buried relics of their own assumptions? Imus was dead to begin with

I'm rather tardy weighing in on the Imus affair, but now that he's down I'll give him a kick or two before turning my attention elsewhere.

I could never be bothered to watch or listen to Imus. In a matter of seconds, it was painfully obvious I was in the presence of a willfully inconsistent mind, what Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. might have called "a mind which might be likened unto a system of gears whose teeth have been filed off at random. Such a snaggle-toothed thought machine... whirls with the jerky, noisy, gaudy pointlessness of a cuckoo clock in Hell." Vonnegut was speaking of the totalitarian mind, but this also neatly describes the don't-give-a-fuck Beltway mind, the mind of the Chris Matthewses — people who don't care if the country wins or loses, as long as they get to play the game. Read more…
