Businesses, particularly small businesses, want their employees to have access to health care – but it must be affordable. Through a universal, Canadian-styled, health care system, all Americans would have access to quality, affordable health care. A new system would provide stability and predictability for employers and enable employees to obtain health care coverage no matter their employer or pre-existing conditions. Under this system all Americans would be able to choose their doctor without the uncertainty of rising deductibles and co-payments. There must be shared responsibility from employers and employees to keep our workforce healthy. Read more

Go Donna Edwards!
Submitted by chicago dyke on Tue, 2008-02-12 06:53.Kick Wynn’s Ass, Grrl! And good on Matt and all the rest of those who’ve worked so hard to get rid of him. Wynn sucks, he’s the worst sort of (expletive deleted) and makes us look bad, Democrats, black people and human beings alike. Anyway, Matt asks an interesting question: Will Obama have coattails? This race is a good place to look to find out. Because Donna is everything a “young progressive” can get behind, and if you’re voting for Hopeful Change and a new future for America, Donna is the perfect compliment to that version of Obama. OTOH- Wynn just started to try to associate himself with Obama, printing fake “ballot” flyers that put his face and Obama’s on top of each other and plastering them all over the district. So he’s trying to cash in on something, I’m not really sure what other than the OFB
wave at the polls.
Anway, although it’s a state race and between two Black Folk and not helpful in determining which, if any, Republicans may vote for Obama in the fall, it will be interesting to see which of these candidates voters choose to associate with him. One is a real progressive, the other is a sell-out of the first order who hates the notion of living wage laws. More interesting will be to see how the Villagers interpret the victory, regardless of who is the victor.

TOMORROW, fourth congressional district candidate Donna Edwards will bring attention to a fundraiser honoring Rep. Wynn by the nuclear energy lobbyist Entergy.Rep. Wynn is being honored at this high-dollar lobbyist breakfast tomorrow by Entergy, the second largest nuclear operator in the country. As the House Chairman of the Subcommittee on Environment and Hazardous Materials, whose interests is Rep. Wynn serving? Entergy is one of the corporations Wynn is supposed to police. Instead, Entergy spent more than $1.1 million lobbying the federal government in just the first half of 2007, giving $18,500 to Wynn’s campaign through the Employees of Entergy Operations Inc PAC and the Entergy Corporation PAC. I support legislation that guarantees “Internet Freedom” – known as network neutrality. This is being referred to as the “First Amendment†of the Internet and ensures equal access for all to access the Internet. However, this freedom is now in jeopardy.
There should be no corporate or governmental gatekeepers for the online medium. Consumers should be able to readily visit the website of their choice. Websites, such as those from local businesses, should not have to pay a tax to large cable or phone companies in order to ensure they receive reasonable service. Read more
