Breaking News: Schumer may support a seat at the table for single payer
This diary at MyDD indicates that Schumer is ready to fight for single payer. This is terrific news if true. If you live in New York, please ask Schumer if this is true and thank him for his support.
There will be major demonstrations in New York in support of single payer:
May 27, state capital Albany, NY
May 30, New York City
We need massive turnout for these events.
Today's single payer post: HR 676 vs FISA abuse
I was thinking about that article in The Hill, Dems hedge on healthcare:
“We all know there is not enough money to do all this stuff,” said Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), a Finance Committee member and an Obama supporter, referring to the presidential candidates’ healthcare plans. “What they are doing is … laying out their ambitions.” ...
Today's single payer post: torture chambers or emergency rooms?
I have been thinking about this old article in The Hill:
Dems hedge on healthcare

Today’s single payer post: NY bloggers not happy with Schumer
Rochester Turning says this kind of corporations-over-people is unbelievable coming from a Democrat. The Albany Project wants to know what Schumer meant by that remark.
Today's single payer post; Capitol Hill Sell out edition
Congressional Democrats are backing away from healthcare reform promises made by their two presidential candidates, saying that even if their party controls the White House and Congress, sweeping change will be difficult.
It is still seven months before Election Day, but already senior Democrats are maneuvering to lower public expectations on the key policy issue. ...
Bolton and the Bloomberg Democrats
Sometimes it's really hard to keep track of it all, as we consider what motivates our leadership and what we can reasonably expect from Democrats. Matt, that wild, meshuga guy, gives a terrific primer that's clear and direct. Get ready, blogmates, we're takin' on the big leagues now:
Read more…You see, both Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton are considering switching their vote on Bolton, and there's probably a bunch of Senators who will follow them. Schumer in particular has been awful, publicly saying that there will probably be no filibuster of Bolton. So here we have a clear progressive electoral victory over the most right-wing Democrat, combined with a horrible year for Bush and a clearly disastrous foreign policy, and yet his nominee to the UN has an easier path to nomination. Why would Democrats even consider ratifying Bush's foreign policy through Bolton?
Many of you will not like this answer, just as I didn't like discovering it, but the reality is that right-wing wealthy neoconservatives whose pet project is Israel are the ones who are forcing the Democrats to the right.
Oops, I Think I Made a Mess
I suppose I can't take credit for all of this, but I'm a little...surprised at the tone of these missives. And to think I was all serious and polite and not at all my usual shrill radical self, being the first commenter over there and wanting them to ahem, not run away skeered. From the DSCC blog (and note the number of party officials commenting here):
Face the Nation: McConnell (Slime-KY), Schumer
I agreed to cover "Farce the Nation" this week solely because half the guests were Sen. Mitch McConnell, Bush fellator supremo and bandit of the Bluegrass, to see if there would be any mention of this story:
Fawn Lake is a golf-course community of 1,400 luxury condominiums, ranging from $700,000 to $1.4 million, whose website touts that “the land surrounding Fawn Lake is rich in Civil War history.†It is a project of NTS Development Company, headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, whose President and CEO is Brian Lavin, a campaign contributor to Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), the Majority Whip.
