Lawsuit over the Texas primary
Panel hears LULAC case over ‘Texas Two-Step'
A federal three-judge panel heard an appeal by a Latino civil rights group Thursday against the Texas Democratic Party, charging that its delegate selection process dilutes the Latino vote and should be subject to the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
For me the events in Texas were the most shocking part of the whole ugly primary. lambert wrote a great post on this and Wampum posted the incident report.
DK Off the TX Ballot
Who cares, right? He's just an elf who talks to aliens and never had a chance anyway. All Good Democrats sign Loyalty Oaths, you freak:
USTIN (AP) — A federal judge agreed Friday that the state Democratic Party can refuse to allow presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich onto the Texas ballot because he wouldn't sign a party pledge.
Kucinich and his singer-supporter Willie Nelson sued the party to try to get Kucinich on the March 4 primary election ballot even though Kucinich refused to sign part of the oath on his ballot application that would commit him to "fully support" the eventual Democratic nominee.
Kucinich may appeal to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, possibly as soon as Monday, said his attorney, Donald McTigue.
...
A paramount issue for Kucinich in the dispute is his opposition to the war in Iraq and his belief in "not using the war as an instrument of foreign policy," McTigue said. The congressman from Ohio does not want to be bound to supporting a Democratic candidate who disagrees with him on that and other issues, he said.
Politics is a Dirty Business #1: TX Edition
Exhibit A: The Fuckup. Exhibit B: One Texan Blogger's reaction. Another Texan Blogger with a totally different take. I don't have an opinion or dog in this hunt. But I am interested to hear/read what he says today. I expect the FDL crowd to be fairly gentle, so he's got a chance to smooth this over. FWIW: I'm willing to cut him some slack, even if he wasn't just tired and fumbling. Everyone makes mistakes, and this is what the primary season is all about, getting out the kinks and learning to run a smooth, lighting fast reactive campaign (among other things). Texans, what do you think? Netroots, has this offended you so greatly he's dead to you? Politics is often 'dancing with the girl you brought.' Is this such a case?
