If you have "no place to go," come here!

Talking surveillance cameras that bark orders at passers-by and can also record conversations are heading for U.S. streets

Wheee!

The announcement confirms that the street lights will have a number of “homeland security features” including a loudspeaker system that will be used to “engage captive audiences”.

No doubt.

Here's the press release. I kid you not.

Orwell missed one. Who ever thought that the freakin' street lamps would turn on us? Know what would make these even better? Adding little turrets that can fire "less than lethal" weapons ("See, says so right here in the marketing materials") of control at "non-compliant" citizens...or those who are doing suspicious things, kind of like "signature strikes" in Yemen. (No sir, no idea who they are. But I see they are carrying musical instrument cases. Could be weapons in there. Fits the signature. Gonna take 'em out now.)

Speaking of signatures...

Watch this video with the sound down first time through. Don't read the description either. (Both the narration of the video and the description may influence you.) Think about what it is that you're seeing. I know it's kind of boring for the first two minutes or so, but I promise there's a big surprise ending. What do I think I'm seeing prior to the surprise ending? Scroll down for my answer. But watch the video first. Silently.

Here's what I see. I see farmers in the field. I see
someone dropping something on the ground. Later, at the same spot, a tractor
stops and the driver gets off. The soil behind the tractor is freshly tilled,
the heat of the earth showing up the tillage on the FLIR camera clearly. And I
see someone looking at the mechanicals of the tractor. Is he a relief driver
taking over the tillage? A mechanic come to make a minor repair to the farm
equipment? What "signature" earned that ending?
