Harry Reid says he'd favor Huntsman over Romney

Why is he even commenting on the Republican race? Can you imagine any previous party leader making a remark like this?

The only reason we are talking about a government shutdown is that the US Senate FAILED to do its job. Last year the House of Representatives passed all the appropriation bills. The senate has failed to do so. With an overwhelming majority, Harry Reid was unable to complete the simple task of passing the appropriation bills. They should have been passed by June 30. At least they should have been passed by October 1, the beginning of the new fiscal year. We are now running on continuing resolutions. Read below the fold...

Every once in a while, Richard Kirsch, does a "happy dance" article celebrating his own Health Care for America Now campaign for health care reform, whose outcome of course was the wonderful bill legislated by the Congress last Spring. Kirsch, who is now a Senior Fellow at The Roosevelt Institute, posted his latest happy dance at The Nation, whose "liberal media bias" was nowhere in evidence near his article. I just love Jim DeMint, in the way you love it when your head stops banging against a wall. The heroic Senator of the Fuck You, America Party has been holding up the appointment hearings of one Erroll Southers, whom Barack Obama nominated in September to head up the TSA. DeMint's bogus reason for the hold is that Southers might unionize the TSA, and as all of us Raygun fans know, that would simply never do! Reid on stump in Pahrump

A group favoring House Bill HR 676 staked its claim along Highway 160.

HR 676, is the National Health Insurance Act, introduced by Congressman John Conyers Jr., D-Mich., who represents Detroit. Conyers' Web site states the bill's purpose is "to ensure that every American, regardless of income, employment status, or race, has access to quality, affordable health care services."

According to organizer Margery Kay Behrens, who has lived in Pahrump for 15 years, "Organizing for America has requested our presence to greet Harry Reid and the tea baggers with signs, banners and 'tea'-shirts in support of HR 676, single-payer health care."

Reid told reporters in Las Vegas on Tuesday that New York “has a history of sending stars to the Senate.” He cited Kennedy’s late uncle, Robert Kennedy, and Clinton as examples.

Some House Democrats were prepared to support immunity, regardless. In a Jan. 28 letter, 21 Democrats in the conservative Blue Dog Coalition sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., supporting [retroactive] immunity and listing other provisions that they believed were needed in a FISA bill.

What I'd like to suggest, no doubt to the consternation of most readers, is that Reid's decision to pull the FISA bill Monday evening was pretty much what Reid had in mind the whole time.

What I'm sure of is that the many comments I've read that characterize what happened on the Senate floor on Monday as Reid having been forced to pull the bill by Chris Dodd's threat of a filibuster simply don't match what I saw, via C-Span's live streaming. Read below the fold...
