Is This Texas' Next Governor?

The GOP contender sure wants to be.

I'm not sure Texas can stand another

Republican governor, either the incumbent or one of the challengers this year (Medina is but one. Another is Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who's conducting her campaign as a fly-in photo op based in DC. Rick Perry's numbers keep getting better.)

I don't know. She has a very different life story from the other TEA-party / GOP female celebrity currently making headlines across the country; but somehow, anybody who doubts that being born in Hawaii -- which has been a state longer than this woman has been alive -- confers American citizenship on a President does not exhibit a connection with realistic thought that inspires great confidence in me.

I do know one thing. Texas desperately needs to get out from under w2, aka Rick Perry.

Bill White is running for the Democrats. He's the former Houston mayor, and he's piled up some reasonably good endorsements, in my humble opinion.

There's another Democrat, Farouk Shami, in the race, and five other Democratic candidates.

The primary is in March but early voting starts Monday. Buckle up, y'all.

it is great to hear from someone on the ground.

I know for a fact that all of Bensten's former hill staff really despised Hutchinson.

back in Texas either. I signed an ACLU petition (Yeah! I'm a card-carrying member!) the other day regarding the Patriot Act. This is her response:

Dear Friend:

Thank you for contacting me regarding S. 1686, the JUSTICE Act. I welcome your thoughts and comments.

The provisions of the PATRIOT Act have served the nation well. I would oppose any legislation that would weaken its provisions. Two recent events right here in Texas provide a stark reminder that the War on Terror has not ended. On November 5, Nidal Malik Hasan, an apparent jihadist terrorist, coldly gunned down 13 soldiers and one unborn child in a murderous rampage at Fort Hood. On September 24, another accused terrorist, Hosam Smadi, was arrested for plotting to blow up a Dallas skyscraper. Despite these horrific incidents, too many people remain complacent and fail to recognize the true nature of the threats we face as a country.

On September 17, 2009, Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) introduced S. 1686, the JUSTICE Act, to further revise the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) of 1978. The legislation seeks to revise numerous requirements regarding national security letters, the procural of business records in counter-terrorist investigations, notification times for search warrants, and limitations on roving electronic surveillance. It also seeks to repeal provisions granting retroactive immunity to telecommunication companies and prohibiting warrantless searches of persons known to reside in the United States. This legislation has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee, on which I do not serve.

Please know that I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to safeguard the security of our nation while upholding our personal privacy rights and civil liberties. Should S. 1686 come for consideration before the full Senate, you may be certain I will keep your views in mind.

I appreciate hearing from you, and I hope that you will not hesitate to contact me on any issue that is important to you.

Sincerely,
Kay Bailey Hutchison
United States Senator

And y'all wonder why I despair of ever getting an idea through my Senators' blinders. The other guy is John Boxturtle.....

Hey Sarah ... Hutchison and Cornyn, along with John Carter, are my Congressional representatives as well. While I continue to contact them, the response from Hutchison you include in your post is typical of what I get from all three.

It's really quite depressing, to have no DC, or in my case, Austin, Elected Elite who thinks there is any reason to "get" anything but their own positions. The inclusion of the "I'll keep your views in mind" in all the responses always makes me want to ask them if they could even tell me what the "view" is.
