"That all men are created equal ..."

was in its day a revolutionary proposition.

Frame abortion as not being like murder? Newsflash: That train done left the station long ago on an express route.

I have grave difficulty believing that the men who sweated blood over the wording of the Declaration of Independence, and years later over the Constitution, didn't realize that sooner or later, Indians not taxed, blacks (slave or free) and (gasp) even women would want to partake of that equality.

They were men ahead of their time and they were visionaries; I don't know how they would've reacted to TV or the Internet but I bet they'd've loved the ability to put words and ideas in front of untold millions with today's keystroke ease.

And I bet they'd be pissed at us for not doing a better job of standing up for the equality and the liberty for which they risked their lives, their souls, and their sacred honor.
