Good cast, good performances, and timely in its time. Surveillance had been moving out of the spy novels/political worlds and into the mainstream. Coppola was prescient, as usual...a great counter moment is in Jules Feiffer's farcical Little Murders--in the film version Elliot Gould gives a monologue wherein he describes addressing an unknown (presumably male) human being who is working for the government and monitoring him. He finds a way into the "unknown's" head. Classic stuff.

Mankind got along for thousands of years without phones. All of us could get along fine without them again.. for say, 30 days.

However, could ATT and other government spies get along without CUSTOMERS for 30 days?

Bet not.

People, BOYCOTTS are the ONLY way to retake control here, because corporate=profit minded pinheads are in charge of things.

Hit em where they hurt. Remember, we can get along FINE without them, they cannot survive without US.
