"The Grandma Primary"

To the ice-floes, granny!

But the beauty part of Alter’s vengeful, age-ist screed is that he’s wrong on the facts. Alter attribute’s Barry’s stomping in PA to the Granny vote, but TalkLeft straightens him out:

This is false in every particular. The PA exit polls prove this. Clinton won ALL voters 40-49 by 54-46. She won ALL voters 50-64 by 57-43. These two age groups comprised 56% of the vote in Pennsylvania. Of course Clinton also won all whites 60 and older by 68-32. But she also won all whites 18-29 by 52-48. She also won all whites 30-44 by 58-42.

TalkLeft is just trying to confuse the issues with facts. The real point, as usual, is the narrative, which is, as Boller, Stowers, and Brazile have been at pains to point out recently, that some constituencies that used to be important to the Democratic Party no longer have a place in it. It’s no coincidence that these constituencies need government to work for them.

Somebody who knows about such things can tell me if Obama reminds them of Tony Blair on the way up. I’m guessing yes.

If Obama were Tony Blair

what kind of poodle would he be?

Yes, it's scary

because Tony Blair, under the pretense of “modernization” dismantled major elements of the British safety nets, brought his religious beliefs into his politics and sold out many traditional ” old labour” constitutencies. Yes, he was young and charismatic, but at the end of the day, England is an extremely unequal society.

And then, (partly, I think, because of his religion), he thought of himself as the Great Unifier: he was going to reconcile the Atlanticist (pro-US) and Continental (Pro-Europe as separate power) views at the heart of the European political debate. Once retired, he was going to mediate the Israeli / palestinian conflict, etc…

The similarities are eerie, aren’t they.
