Sid is one of my heroes, I really sort of worship the guy, but this piece provokes a different reaction in me than it will in many people. Or rather, many of some people.
From the get go, the Bush administration has frustrated me because a small group of people, people who weren’t really that bright or courageous, decided that fantasy was more important than reality. Now, normally I don’t care if other people want to smoke crack all day or otherwise avoid reality with aplomb. But when those people are the gatekeepers to which policies in government are applied, we have a problem.
I knew, like you and millions of others around the world, that there were no WMDs in Iraq. We’ve all got a different set of reasons why we believed it then and believe it now, and most of them are correct and factual. But the group of magical thinkers controlling the public discourse decided to run with a sexy, exciting fairy tale about Good vs Evil, and the public went along. Sort of. This post and this post taken together show that people need only the tiniest bit of truthful information and they will mostly make the better choice. It’s telling that we are in the midst of one of the more pronounced and sophisticated propaganda blitzes in history, and the fascists are still doing so poorly in the polls.
The only solution I can think of is to get people to turn to alternative media sources, while at the same time turning off the SCLM
except when it presents something cleanly and without bias. Which won’t be often, don’t worry. “Political” and “news” TV and mainstream writing are theatre, nothing more. This whole “Bush knew there weren’t any” story annoys me, because for fuck’s sake, was there really any doubt about that? I’m glad the Clerisy have decided to adopt a new meme, I’m sure they’ll eventually spin it out to benefit one or another Republican. But such a “development” is only significant in the pretend-world of When Pretty Rich White People Are On TV*. Am I supposed to be impressed? Happy? I suppose 1-2% of the dead enders will change their minds, and vote for Hillary. Heh.
*This includes house negroes, closet cases, hypocritical traitors to the oppressed, and other sell outs. Paid and otherwise. “White” is what They tell you it is. waves at Bandar

Beware of Senators Professing Ignorance
I think you’re right to help us recall how much information was actually in the air back when Bush managed to fool the whole country. Emptywheel suggests some context for Blumenthal’s “revelation.”
I need television to see the looks on people’s faces when they’re lying to us. Aside from that, it’s not much use, even though it could show us a lot more about what is going on in the world, outside of the consumer bubble.
"Bandar"?
Prince Bandar?
The Pigmy Bandar People in The Phantom?
We. Are. Going. To. Die. We must restore hope in the world. We must bring forth a new way of living that can sustain the world. Or else it is not just us who will die but everyone. What have we got to lose? Go forth and Fight!—Xan
Which makes this just that much more delusional
