The Trillion Dollar Blue Dress

Dear America:

I was just wondering, now that I know that our goal in Iraq is and seemingly always was containment, do you think the price you paid for it was a fair one? I know President Clinton was a very, very bad man and I'm so glad we spent millions to prove that Monica doesn't swallow very well. But it seems to me that those days were much more fun for all of us, don't you? I mean, I suppose a couple of Starr's assistants may have suffered a papercut or two, but that just doesn't seem as horrible to me as having your legs blown off and being left to rot in a bed of your own piss. I also liked being a nation respected around the world as a beacon of freedom and liberty. Economic prosperity was nice too, even if it didn't happen to everyone. This torture stuff is also rather unsavory, wouldn't you agree?

Anyway, I was wondering if it would be all right with you, now that we've spent a half-trillion dollars and more to contain Iraq, if we could move on to other things. I bet the soldiers, and their families and neighbors, would be happy if we could start on something like health care. It's just a thought.

Love, ChiDy

Why the fear?

FYI, I've previously referenced that study re: the broader costs of the war.

i just mean you have a way of finding info that

proves it's always worse than i think. which is good, in that 'oh i hate this administration' kind of way.

CD,

I think the "The Trillion Dollar Blue Dress" is perfect in many ways. It reminds us of folly, recklessness, bodily fluids, Republican smears. By association, in a funny way it hangs "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms Lewinski" around Bush's neck. Only his lies are obviously so much worse. It gets us thinking about the cost of war, and then about the true cost of war.

It's just fucking brilliant, that's all. From now on the Iraq war is the TDBD, sez THB.

THB: kiss!

it's hard to blog "seriously" when you've got three kittens on your lap, each demanding your attention and reminding you of a multi- week flooring and painting project that awaits.

yes, that was the point.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
