"They wear funny shoes... Without any buckles on them!"

A day late, I' m afraid; I was only reminded of Stan Freberg when reading Avedon on Tom Lehrer.

Plus ça change....

And speaking of banana republics:

Sorry about the visuals, but if you close your eyes, it's all Freberg.

Freberg was my childhood

Freberg was my childhood favorite ever since I heard "Wunnerful Wunnerful' (I think that's how he spelled it) ... I wasted many happy hours in Junior High calling bits from Freberg back and forth with my buddies, cracking ourselves up to the befuddlement of our fellow protopubescents.

Lehrer was also way high on my list at that time, and I appreciated his archness more and more as I got out in the world. (Your link didn't get me to the Lehrer comment though.)

My son & daughter both "got" the Freberg and Lehrer take on the absurdities of modern life and the redemptive value of their kind of humor for
people who like their brains.

Thanks for the post. A most enjoyable morning surprise today.

And I actually liked the puppets.

Turn off the bubble machine!

I can't find a YouTube for this, alas.

The idea of the Mighty Corrente Building has a lot to do with the mythical spaces from which these broadcasts came. Freberg, Bob and Ray...
