"This we understand, completely." And you're wrong

Alice Walker:

It is understood by all that you [Barack Obama] are commander in chief of the United States and are sworn to protect our beloved country; this we understand, completely.

"By all"? Goodess, I hope not. The essential Avedon stomps this noxious meme:

Note to Alice Walker: No, he is not "the commander in chief of the United States", a position which has never existed in US law. The President of the United States serves as the commander in chief of the military; he is an employee of the United States, not our boss.

We're never going to restore Constitutional government at this rate.

Good Catch

I'm glad Avedon caught that. Yet more proof that we get the government that we deserve. Really, what else is there to add? There is so much damned truthiness purporting itself as truth you wonder if it's really even worth fighting, anymore.

But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...

Glenn is a must-read on this topic

Note that Biden is propagating this concept of what the president is. And people were freaked out when Sarah Palin didn't know what the VP's job was! They and so many others share this perverted idea about the nation's worst job.

already "commandering"-- Obama 'to honour' missile plans

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/771766... -- "US President-elect Barack Obama will go ahead with plans to build part of a controversial missile defence system on Polish soil, Poland has announced.

President Lech Kaczynski's office said the pledge was made during a telephone conversation between the two men.

Russia opposes the US plans, and early this week said it planned to deploy missiles on Poland's border and electronically jam the US system.

This is the first signal that Mr Obama plans to continue George Bush's policy.

During the US election campaign, Mr Obama said he wanted to review the system to build a missile defence system in central Europe to ensure it would be effective and would not target Russia. ..."

Convincing us

Remember Joe Biden's comment about needing to convince us with their influence that Obama/Biden is correct even if we don't think they are? Is this related?

Dagnabbit. I was happy with my apathy after the election, you all are depressing the heck outta me now.

Only tyrants rig elections.

UK now warning about troops/participation--

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/nov/09... -- "Troops should not be transferred directly from Iraq to Afghanistan after a "significant reduction" is made to the British contingent there next year, the head of the armed forces said today.

Sir Jock Stirrup, the chief of the defence staff, said it was crucial for the armed forces to experience a reduction in "operational tempo" in order to recover from several years of being overstretched.

His comments came as the foreign secretary, David Miliband, indicated that the UK, whose 8,100 troops in Afghanistan make it the second largest contributor to the international force, would expect other Nato countries to take up a bigger share of the burden in any US-led "surge".

The US president-elect, Barack Obama, is preparing to order a significant increase in troop numbers in Afghanistan in the hope of quelling the Taliban insurgency in the country. ..."
