Times: Impeach #Bybee

Better late than never:

These memos make it clear that Mr. Bybee is unfit for a job that requires legal judgment and a respect for the Constitution. Congress should impeach him. And if the administration will not conduct a thorough investigation of these issues, then Congress has a constitutional duty to hold the executive branch accountable. If that means putting Donald Rumsfeld and Alberto Gonzales on the stand, even Dick Cheney, we are sure Americans can handle it.

After eight years without transparency or accountability, Mr. Obama promised the American people both. His decision to release these memos was another sign of his commitment to transparency. We are waiting to see an equal commitment to accountability.

Heck, why not impeach Bush and Cheney? I seem to recall that Presidents can be impeached after they leave office -- though I'm not sure that applies to Fourth Branches of Government.

It's really just a darned shame that when

Bybee was up for confirmation, the Democrats just let him slide on through.

Am pretty tired of the penchant Democrats have for closing the barn door after the horses have bolted, but I could certainly get behind an effort to remove Bybee from the bench.

Both

This point needs to be made again and again and again. This isn't an either/or proposition we were offered, and we need to make sure that they know that. I've seen some falling all over themselves in the last week praising the administration for offering transparency, but transparency is not an end in itself, and if that's all someone wants to take, that's all that they'll deserve when it comes to something they really care about. Those that only transparency or transparency over accountability deserve neither when it comes to their door.

But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
