I have tried to stay out of this mess, as I can see both sides of the argument. Readers, what do you think? Can Democrats ever use FOX to their advantage? Is there a way to "get through to" a FOX viewer, if you're a Democrat or liberal? There is a lot to this story, beyond just knee-jerk distrust of FOX, and not all bloggers agree on a course of action.
FWIW, I have no problem with Democrats going on FOX, so long as they take a chair with them and repeatedly bash whichever Republican operative FOX has on pretending to be a "journalist." Hilbama should have staffers go to the blogs and dig up all the evil, juicy proof of FOX complicity with Republicans, the nasty personal stuff too. Then, whenever they get an assinine question like "Isn't it true that you hate American troops in Iraq and that's why your call for redeployment is really demanding mandatory gay marriage with Saddam?" they can hit back. I think that's really the only way to combat FOXism- they only respect it when people are forcefully in opposition, because they themselves are such spineless, brainless, sycophantic sockpuppets who only know how to be servicing tools to power.
Blogger "keepin it real" version: FAUX bobbleheads like it one way: in the ass with no lube. Their Republican masters give them the pr0n script to read whenever a Democrat comes to their studios, and it's time for the Dems to show the bobbleheads that they are harder, nastier and meaner than the self-hating closet cases in the Repubican party. I bet Webb could show how this is best done, were he to be put in charge of Democratic media strategy.
Still, I don't expect "sensible" Hillary and "hopeful" Obama or even Edwards to come out swinging, which is why it's probably a bad idea to show up in Nevada. FOX hosts will lay down a long line of discoursive bananas, and our Leading Democrats with a Realistic Chance of Winning will slip over every one of them, every time. FOX has learned that the Democrats are the suckers in the room willing to be the butt of every joke, and most likely always will be.

These people only understand force, CD
As their their viewing audience shrinks to the KoolAid drinkers, they'll lose ratings and adverting.
That might force the Powers That Be at FUX to change their business model and appeal to a broader audience.
OTOH, if they are the equivalent of a huge vanity press for winger billionaires, like Regnery, they won't retrench at all; because the lack of profit in one division of the VRWC is more than made up for by increased profits in the other divisions. Anything to keep us down, basically--that's where the profit it...
No authoritarians were tortured in the writing of this post.

No.
My grandpa watches Fox 24/7. He is completely and utterly brainwashed.
I'm pretty sure he's a typical viewer. There's no getting through to him. On the other hand, we're giving the VRWC a free swing at all our stars. You think we're going to like the coverage they give us?
It's fucking suicide. Completely and utterly incomprehensible.
But I still believe
And I will rise up with fists!!

I'm one-sided on this one
Fox News exists to profit by tearing down progressives and promoting neanderthals.
Sure, the occasional brave Democrat should go on a Fox show like Bill Clinton did, but we should not trust/reward them with our debates and other events that should be, I don't know, "fair and balanced."

Trust them? I think not.
Dumbest Democratic move yet. Faux is one of the chief propaganda organs of the WH. The video will be property of Faux to snip, clip, remix, replay, hand over to the GOP for campaign commercials, etc.
Dump Faux
I think Stoller has it exactly right, stay away from Faux. It would deny them the opportunity to ask Hillary "other than Vince Foster, who else did you murder" and it would delegitimize them. It would show there is a price for sliming Democrats.

Going on Fox air with a Dem debate
is a Dum idea. It will legitimize ALL Fox coverage, and that is the totally wrong thing to do. The only knees that can be capped at Fox are the ones located very close to the $'s.
Cut viewership, and the tone will change.

There is no reason to
There is no reason to contribute anything to FOX.
Not Playing To Selected Audiences
... would be a healthy theme to choose for Dem candidates, imho. I would love to see the Democratic candidates declare that they don't need to preach to the choir because they are not a sham. Their commitment and beliefs, and truthful answers, should be primary, not the background noise. I've seen Edwards hold his own with unsympathetic questioners, I think it makes them look like a better class of leader. Would love to see them all belt the FOXtards like Clinton did.

Looks like inbreeding suits more than just Muslim immigrants
It is hilarious to see the leftardos here wanting to "exclude" a cable network with twice the viewers of CNN and MSNBC put together.
Why not select a new people, like the German Democratic Republic wanted to do after the riots in Berlin? That's what Berthold Brecht asked and he would be laughing at the ultra-left autocrats who want to do a Mugabe on the media in Nevada. Go to Harare where they ban the BBC as too right-wing!
...
Now why did you have to go and make it racist? Although I'm aware that people of your opinion watch this blog and comment on seemingly every post, I'm not sure why. I sure as hell am not over at conservative boards making it personal. Oh well, maybe if you read it long enough it will sink in, or something like that.
This blog is pretty good, but it is not a legitimate news source. Although I'm pretty sure you have no idea what that is anyway.
QVC, and FOOD TV, too
... could host the debates. If 'For Only Xtremists' tv were a news channel rather than an advertisement for the right wing, it might have some cachet with candidates. Keeping up the pretense that it is really reportage rather than sales pitch, tho, is the issue here.
I am inclined to think that letting the Democratic candidates take on themselves the role of the christians in the lions' den might be a good thing. I have great respect for the capabilities of several of the candidates, even knowing that the spin will be totally oblivious of and opposed to the truth following the debates.
But then 'commenters' like the previous daveinboca come on here, and I wonder if we aren't expecting too much. These poor delusional types can't really pass for rational observers, they just are waiting to get the latest talking point so they can spew. Sigh.

Nope. Having Dems go on
Nope. Having Dems go on Faux just legitimizes the network. We should never to that. I wonder if Brownback gets the nomination if Faux will transfer their cult worship to him. I can see them transferring it to Rudy, but not Brownback.
Comedy Central would be the best choice
Stewart/Colbert, that is, not the Naked Trucker.
As to Fox as a battle-hardening move, I think discretion is the better part of valor when you're dealing with a monstrous organization whose raison d'etre is to clock you on the head with a lead pipe.

i guess daveinboca settles it, there is no point
to going and trying to speak to the fox audience. and dave, for what it's worth- keep in mind that while fox viewers are greater in number than cnn, blog readers have already surpassed that number, and are growing. fox can't say that, and in fact the last post i did on their numbers showed a sharp decline in audience size. so i guess we'll see about 'inbreeding,' eh?
kimberlee, we may not be a 'legitimate' news service here, but i like to think that as a news aggregate, we do better than any 1/2 hr news program on TV almost any day. and you certainly won't read about a large number of topics we like to post on at even the more "liberal" stations like cbs. but i'm glad we make your 'pretty good' cut.
