Ok, so I’m a tad nervous this morning. Coffee probably wasn’t a good idea this morning, but it’s going to be a busy day. I’ll be at several election parties tonight, and running around between blogging today, and chewing on my fingernails. But I wanted to say:
Thank you, Fremen warriors. And: I’m sorry for being such a Bitch.
Long Live the Fighters!
I recently got an email from a liberal friend, complaining about how librul organizations are, well, kinda fucked up. And they are. I could tell a silly story about my canvassing experience this weekend, but rather than do so, I want to thank the utterly clueless man who at least tried to put in some time and effort in the cause of justice. Not everyone is so good with maps, ya know?
Let’s face it, Will was right. We don’t belong to an organized party, we’re liberals and progressives and Democrats and we can’t even agree on the proper name of the Party of Justice
for the People of Judea. We’re foul mouthed bloggers with no sense of how to be Civil, we talk too much and we don’t think about the big picture enough. We waste our limited time and resources on the wrong things, and generally fail to get our shit together in time to make a difference.
And that’s OK.
I’m happy to be part of the Parties of Progress. I’m glad to count among our number pot smokers, the underemployed, the undocumented, the undereducated, and those who’d rather argue about Marx and Trotsky in genteel poverty than shut up and go be slaves to the Borg. I’m proud to count as my friends those who love animals more than people, who pass out leaflets on street corners and who rage against the night. Who sacrifice everything to follow in the footsteps of Christ and Buddha, who give their last dollar to the homeless man on the street, and walk away whistling a happy tune without a worry for their next meal.
Win or lose today, I’m proud of everyone who made an effort, however minor. I’d rather be in your company, Good Liberal
and Excellent Progressive, than live for ten thousand years in Republican wealth and splendor. Thank you, for everything, for the company, for the support, for trying. Tomorrow I’ll be back to bitching and moaning, but today: kudos to everyone for standing up for what’s right. Be proud. This is our little corner of Heaven, and I’m glad to be here with you.
