Woot!

My Rep!!

He’s also pushed an initiative to get all the House members to wear little lapel pins that said 1, in re to Article 1 of The Constitution. He felt that it was important to remind Congress of their powers to place a check on the president.

He does some things

that I don’t agree with, he’s endorsing Obama for one, but I can’t say I blame him. My city will probably go for Obama, maybe Lexington too, the rest will go for Clinton. Plus, he got no love from the DCCC*(Emmanuel didn’t back him in the primary, either) last year, even though he was going up against Rubber -stamp Anne Northrup, who was very entrenched. I emailed a couple of bloggers who connected with ActBlue to show him some love, but I don’t know how that panned out.

Interesting story during the 06 campaign, is that he was the editor in chief of our little indie weekly newspaper, the Louisville Eccentric Observer, an interesting rag. He had like years of oped columns that Northrup demanded copies of, wherein he advocated a younger drinking age, after a trip to Ireland with his 18 yr old son, and legalizing marijuana. She also found an old video where he, a fairly wealthy guy who used to be a Republican, was telling a crowd of people about how he never went into AA neighborhoods.

Turns out he was speaking in front a White Supremacy group, where he was excoriating them for their beliefs, and that one line was a taken completely out of context. The entirety of the speech made it on the news, and it really scored points for him in the long run.

*This is what really bothers me. The main reason he got no love, is because he was too progressive. I realize there are problems with many of the people who control the levers in DC, and can sympathize with Obama’s supporters desire to “clean house” and destroy the current party power structure. I just believe these steps are more incremental(the Republican Revolution took decades, don’t forget). Obama’s supporters are also going to be largely disappointed when they discover Change don’t mean shit.
