Tom Daschle on Iraq

lambert's picture

Tom Daschle's name has been floated as Obama's chief of staff. Here's Daschle on Iraq in 2002:

Ahead of the vote, Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle announced Thursday morning he would support Bush on Iraq, saying it is important for the country "to speak with one voice at this critical moment."

Daschle, D-South Dakota, said the threat of Iraq's weapons programs "may not be imminent. But it is real. It is growing. And it cannot be ignored." However, he urged Bush to move "in a way that avoids making a dangerous situation even worse."

Seems like an obvious part of the story and an easy Google search to do, but... Whatever.

Great to see that when everybody gets a Unity Pony, all will be forgiven on Iraq!

Except, of course, for Hillary, Quintessence of Evil, who had the audacity to take a position equivalent to that of Hans Blix. Away with her!

Is that the new Democratic leadership

that Tristero was waxing lyrical about this morning?

Has anyone forgotten what a lame Minority leader Daschle was before his humiliating defeat?

rove or card on daschle

sometime after daschle was defeated for his south dakota senate seat, either karl rove or andy card(bush's chief of staff) said of daschle that while while daschle was the democrats senate majority leader:

[we could never understand what tom daschle's plan was. every time we asked him for something, he gave it to us.]

that's our "new" leadership in action.

The Last Refuge of Scoundrels

That's what AUMF is. I was trying to get a male Obamaphile to give me one solid piece of evidence that he will bring about change. He fiddled around with the hopey-changey for a while, but nothing came to him. Then he said, "well Obama voted against the war". No freakin joke, he said Obama voted against the war. I walked him through how the AUMF vote was in 2002 and how Obama won his Senate seat in 2004 and didn't start until 2005. (The guy tried to say Obama was elected in 2001, as if off year elections were the norm.)

So I ask this guy how Obama could have voted against AUMF if he wasn't even in the Senate and then he said, "uh, well, he didn't vote for the war". Keep in mind this was after several minutes of him not being able to point to positive affirmation of Obama's accomplishments. I won't go into how he started literally making shit up about what AUMF was and who and what Hans Blix has said about AUMF. The dude even went so far as to say Hans Blix is going around the world criticizing Hillary.

Democrats usually have the truth going into elections. If Obama is the nominee we won't even have that.

Only tyrants rig elections.

Of Course There Will Be a Unity Pony on Iraq

How else could Josh Marshall, Matt Yglesias, et al, get work in the Administration.

They've punished Hillary for their own sin. Time to unify!

Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
