Tom Geoghegan: Progressive

As we've been seeing, most sitting Village Dems, staffers and would be congresscritters are barely worthy of the label "liberal" or "left-leaning," and have little interest in "change" or reform, let alone progressive policy and persecution of Bush-era criminality. People like me have said for some time now, that won't change until a large number of them are primary-challenged and made to go away, replaced by people who understand our problems and aren't beholden to the interests of the rich or corporations. Well, time for me to put my money where my mouth is. CD officially endorses Geoghegan, and she's not alone. Why? Well, this for starters:

Second we have to move to single payer health care program....
That’s already how other countries out-compete us: they have the
government and not the private employer pick up these non-wage health
and pension costs.

"Unless we have government pick up the costs of pensions and health
care, our companies can’t compete, and we’ll go on piling up huge
trade deficits. We’ll have debacles like GM, which has collapsed in
part because of the health and pension costs that the federal
government should have been paying all along.

"For years, the conservatives have said: 'We can’t do this. The
money isn’t there.. Well, the money is there. It was there for the
Iraq war, a colossal waste of money, and for the bailout, the first
half of which has been a colossal waste as well....

Mmmmm. There's plenty more around the web if you're interested. Hubris Sonic James Fallows. Act Blue. What Digby Said.

Tom has plenty of fans in the blogosphere, and if I still lived in IL, I'd be volunteering for him. As it is, I'll just try to send him some money. Primary's in March, so don't waste time getting busy supporting him, if you're so inclined. Friend of labor, right on health care and the bailout/giveaway, Tom is exactly the sort of Dem we need in the House.
