Arthur continues his series on tribalism:
In the Age of Obama, the breathtakingly rapid abandonment of ideas that liberals (and assorted others) had once proclaimed to be central to their existence is as odious as it was predictable. It also replicates almost perfectly the similar abandonment of principles by many conservatives and alleged libertarians during the late, unlamented Age of Bush the Younger.
Should he really be saying such things with the mid-terms just 17-months away?

Isn't this bizarre?
It may be predictable, but it's not any less bizarre, to me. This would be a perfect ground for a third party (or multiple additional parties) just about anywhere else in the world.
Oh, and a slight correction to what Arthur is saying, but I think the shedding of principles by the Dems began (and largely finished up) long before Obama came to roost. He's simply the ultimate/completed manifestation and avatar of the party's lost scruples and principles.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
I don't think too many people have...
... a head-start on Arthur when it comes to tracing the rot in the Democratic Party.
What's that supposed to mean?
?
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
I mean that it would be hard to "correct" Arthur about
when the Dems lost their principles.
Lost principles
Sorry if you don't like the word "correct." I don't like people checking their critical thinking skills at the door depending on the individual or group.
I don't think he's correct in implying (unless I'm reading it wrong) that it has just been since the Age of Obama that liberals have abandoned all they used to stand for. If I'm reading too much into the quote, that's one thing, but it's time for some to start spreading their critical thinking skills a bit more evenly. Arthur's great, and I hope I simply misread what I think he was implying; otherwise, I have no problem or qualms in saying that I think his implication about the timeline was wrong.
