Coming in from the cold now, that same op-ed specialist is born again to the realization that lives are at stake.
In an editorial entitled "Wasted Lives" the reformed war advocate has noticed, and to his credit speaks out about, the cretin (and vice-cretin) in chief holding up the troops as their object of esteem, and using them as an excuse to prolong their criminal war.
I think it's worth your while to read the whole piece, but especially the conclusion...
...the obscuring of death and injury with emotive words and patriotic babble ought to be seen as a hideously obscene avoidance of accountability.
I would say 'of criminal intent' or at least 'of guilt for murder' myself, but the meme of accountability is probably as far as you can go without having the editorial board of WaPo decide you're too honest to put in print.
