TV host musical chairs

According to one report Keith Olberman and Gwen Ifill are the top contenders for the new Meet the Press host. Now Ifill is nothing but a public embarrassment. However, if she got the MTP gig, that would open up Washington Week for Robert Parry.

So maybe we should get ready to ask Washington Week, PBS and WETA to replace Ifill with Parry.

Ifill The Least Embarrassing of the Two

Which is saying something, isn’t it?

Let’s see, bloviating, self-important, sexist jackass? I’d say Olbermann is perfect to replace Russert.*

* Yes, I know he died and was too young to do so. I’m sure his family, friends and the people who love him are grieving and they have my sympathy. But none of that changes the fact that Tim Russert was a terrible influence on our national public discourse and I refuse to pretend otherwise because the man died.

MTP

Tim Russert was a terrible influence on our national public discourse and I refuse to pretend otherwise because the man died.

I agree. I think that Ifill is worse. Her misreporting of the CIA leak case on NewsHour and Washington was a national disgrace and embarrassment. And her work on Social Security bordered on scamming. She really is a very very very bad person.

On the other hand, if we could persuade PBS to replace her with Parry it would be a very good thing.

Were it up to me Mika Brzezinski would be the new host of MTP. But it isn’t up to me.

I can't believe Olbermann would even be considered.

He’s too much of an O’Reilly.

On the bright side, you know Chris Matthews must be in a fetal position at the idea that KO is being considered.

Tavis Smiley!!!!

Or not.

She really is a very very very bad person.

Links?

Cuz that digby link was about nothing.

Tavis Smiley would be fine

there are probably good people at NBC affiliates we do not know about.

Good Links.

Better.

there are probably good people at NBC affiliates

Doubtful.

Won't be Olbermann

He is still showing strong ratings growth on Countdown and has carved out a very nice niche. It doesn’t make sense for MSNBC to shake it up, just when KO has pulled ahead of Bill-O. Plus, KO is still very pretty raw in giving tough interviews - he admitted as much after his HRC interview.

Speaking of TV News musical chairs, did you see the newest FOX hire?

Lanny Davis

Christiane Amapour...

or Ashleigh Banfield…

or really, just shut MTP down. Its outlived its usefulness. NBC will never let it be a serious news program, because the news division is a profit center.

GE should be forced to sell NBC

a defense contractor should not be allowed to own a broadcast network.

Given NBC's Profits

or lack thereof, I think GE might agree with you. :-)

Seriously, I thought your suggestion on having a contracting rule for DOD forbidding them from contracting with any entity that owns a broadcast network was a brilliant one.

Hmm. So Who's VIACOM/CBS's defense-contractor sugar-daddy?

Cause it’s CBS with the heavy pro-mil lineup, last time I looked.

But then I like NUMB3RS and NCIS, and it looks like that awful “The Unit” didn’t make it back after the writers’ strike (so that’s one achievement for the writers, after all).

I liked Gil Bellows in “The Agency,” and Will Patton’s character was perhaps the most sympathetic he’s ever played (altho he isn’t bad in “Remember the Titans” and while his character on Numb3rs is a polar opposite, he makes even that hardcore S of a B likeable, somehow).

NBC has put its Burbank home up for sale, btw.

The Unit

It was a good show, but it lost a lot of viewers(like my fiance) when it came back with a new format, with more time spent on the wives instead of the missions(plus they killed a character off, and it didn’t work out well, IMO). I got sick and tired of the wives segment of the show being all about Tiffy’s screw ups.

Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!

it'll be Dances-With-Rove --

David Gregory.

David Gregory.

I kinda forgot he existed until you mentioned him.

Makes perfect sense. Cuz that show he was doing on MSNBC is pointless now? No? Right?

it is, and he's filled in for Timmeh a lot--

(they should really give it to Andrea Mitchell, but they’re all he-man woman-haters)

I'll Waffle.

Damn, conspiracy theories dancing in my head.

They give it to Andrea as the final “Told you guys NBC isn’t sexist, now drop it!”.

Would be funny.

Ugh! Andrea Mitchell

A woman who mostly goes along with sexism because either that’s what she believes or, more likely, it’s good for her career.

If you’re from a group outside the system you can fight the system (either from within or without) or you can go along with it. The latter generally pays better.

she knows all the players--some in the biblical sense

; >

i could see it happening that way

— it’d still be better than O’Reillybermann or Dances-With-Rove.

Mrs. Greenspan-the new host of MTP--

it’s very fitting, no?

Andrea Mitchell

Like Russert, a traitor in the Plame case

gad, the whole network is a sack of pus

If you're gonna dream, dream big

Amy Goodman.

The goopers (and most of the Dems) would be scared to death to go on.

they'd never even give it to Maddow, let alone

Goodman.

(there’s dreaming, and then there’s delusional—Andrea Mitchell is the best of a very bad and sad lot, i’d say)

Now if they gave it to John Goodman, I might watch it. N/T
