Just the other day, Israel apparently signalled the Palestinians that they--the Israelis--might make concessions on Jerusalem, ahead of the forthcoming "MIddle East Summit" now in the planning stages, and set for next month.
Today--well, yesterday--the Israeli high command has ordered the IDF to assume control of as much Palestinian land around Jerusalem as possible, for the only possible, plausible purpose of locating Israeli settlements which would isolate Jerusalem should it become part of the Palestinian arrangements.
Nobody could have EVER imagined such a scenario, right?

Thanks for bringing this up. I was unaware of it before reading your post.
I am sympathetic to Israelis' fear of attacks and their desire for geopolitical security. But I don't understand how anyone can negotiate in good faith and with a straight face after effecting land seizures like this right before talks.
Actually, it is repeated actions like this that have convinced me that the Israeli government currently in power has no serious intention of forging a two state solution. They get away with this bait & switch, because the U.S. lets them and Israel's own citizenry is divided about how to obtain true security. Is it through peace or war?
It seems to me this holding pattern of violence and violent reprisals is unimaginative, cowardly, and cannot last, because it cannot bring the Israelis the longterm security they need.
