In this perfect meritocracy we commoners call America, it's good to see that our most dynamic, enterprising and promising youth can pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and, by dint of the shear force of their intellegence, effort, and hard work*, rise to the top.
"David Axelrod's son is following his father's career path -- that is, the one he had before becoming a political strategist.
Ethan Axelrod is joining the Huffington Post, the liberal Web site that has been largely supportive of President Obama."
snip.
""I've been interested in journalism for a while," the 22-year-old Axelrod said Tuesday. "I heard through my father that they were expanding, so I applied for it." "
Apparently, A-list blogs are the new Versailles
water-wings**.
UPDATE!: How could I write a post like this and leave out a doughy pantload! Because yes, I know, the right wing fever swamp has been down with this for years and years. It's good to see the A-list can learn some of their lessons. Um, what I mean is....
h/t Jeralyn, who says without (much/any?) hint of snark: "I think it's great we'll be getting a new quality news site [in Denver]".
*The book's title, "In Praise of Nepotism" written, amusingly, by Saul Bellow's son(no doubt published based on its own excellence without hint of favoritism).
** with no offense intended towards water-wings. Or training wheels either.

Because of course, with newspapers all over
the country shutting down, and others cutting quality staff down to skeleton crews, young Ethan clearly had the edge in the experience department - I mean, he has been interested in journalism "for a while," which must mean since - what - middle school?
I find it slightly amusing that young Ethan, ever so interested in journalism, heard about the opening from his father...so how did Dad hear about it? Not that it would be odd for someone not in the journlism biz to be told about an opening/new venture at HuffPo - I mean, who better than the Axelrod who is velcro'd to the president to steer someone he knows to that operation?
Nothing like hiring the son of Axelrove to keep the access to the WH w-i-d-e open, huh?
bootstraps will be issued on a
family-friendly need-to-be-strapped-up basis.
Reporter to Mahatma Gandhi: What do you think of Western Civilization?
Gandhi to reporter: I think it would be a good idea.
Axelrod the Younger
is merely carrying on in the family astroturf business, so where's the harm?* Hey, the sons and daughters of the rich, priveleged and splendiforously (thank you Zorba) advantaged have to eat too, right? Blogging is after all, another perfectly respectable pastime, and why not get paid to do it? And what could be more easy? Have nothing to write about? Just call up dad, HE'LL tell you what to write about!
In the comments at Talkleft, one commenter seems to feel since his finger won't be on any important buttons (unlike, for example GWB), it isn't an issue.
And, sure, point taken. Also, Huffpost is by definition an insider, personality, access-centric A-list, "progressive" blog. So, once again, where's the harm? I would guess there ISN'T any harm: as long as you take as a given that every A-list "progressive" outlet in the blogosphere is de facto an outlet for the Obama administration and it's operatives.
Oh. Wait.
*Maybe in calling himself a "journalist", and calling what he will do "journalism"? Just a thought.
Sorry, I don't fall in love with politicians. I'm not that desperate.
