VLWC Gets Money, Becomes "Troubling"

The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy has been in operation for years, indeed decades. Funded by a stealthy group of those who are either wealthy in their own right or capable of generating wealthy via donations from ignorant rubes, fearful fundamentalists, corporatists buying influence suckers for a particular cause, they have built an impressive structure of think tanks, "educational" organizations, and "groups" which consist mostly of letterheads with impressive sounding names but membership consisting of unemployed Republican operatives and those hoping to become such in future administrations.

Now we're getting a similar group on the left--actually they say "center-Left" but these days anything left of Genghis Khan is perceived as socialist if not outright commie--and oh my, the vapors are starting to gather. This is ominous! This is worthy of intense reporting, reliance on anonymous sources muttering dire warnings, ominous implications, and need for scrutiny. Where, one might wonder casually, was this level of reportage over the workings of the BushCo Administration the last six years, or more if you count His years of mismanaging Texas? The Washington Post is suddenly on red alert:

An alliance of nearly a hundred of the nation's wealthiest donors is roiling Democratic political circles, directing more than $50 million in the past nine months to liberal think tanks and advocacy groups in what organizers say is the first installment of a long-term campaign to compete more aggressively against conservatives.

A year after its founding, Democracy Alliance has followed up on its pledge to become a major power in the liberal movement. It has lavished millions on groups that have been willing to submit to its extensive screening process and its demands for secrecy.

These include the Center for American Progress, a think tank with an unabashed partisan edge, as well as Media Matters for America, which tracks what it sees as conservative bias in the news media. Several alliance donors are negotiating a major investment in Air America, a liberal talk-radio network.

But the large checks and demanding style wielded by Democracy Alliance organizers in recent months have caused unease among Washington's community of Democratic-linked organizations.

OMG!! Does this mean no $ 4 U DLC??

Mebbe so, mebbe not. We await with greedy hands extended, our share of the loot. We have thoughtfully brought a large steamer trunk in case the sums dispensed are too large to be conveniently carried in hand, wallet and purse.

Unless their rigorous screening process says we have to quit saying "fuck" in order to get dough. Then we tell 'em to fuck the hell off, ESAD, and go our merry way in virtuous poverty as we've done all along. We also serve who sit on the sidelines and cheer.
