In the vulgate. Pew:
Fully 72% of the public -- including comparable percentages of Democrats, Republicans and independents -- say that journalists should not be anointing Obama as the Democratic nominee at this stage in the race. Just 20% say that journalists should be doing this.
Of course, Obama, who never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity, is going to kick all these people in the teeth on 5/20 by staging, for these same [cough] journalists, his coronation.
Not that Pew's story will be covered. Nor will what the Pew study means be covered: That the voters totally mistrust the "fairy stories" that our famously free press tells, and for a good reason that they understand and can express: The voters get to pick the President, not the press.
The Village is a sack of pus waiting to burst.

Repudiating the Media Narrative
One of the best things that would come out of the party selecting Clinton as its nominee is to finally stand up to the media narrative. That's what I think a lot of people want to see. After Bush v. Gore and all the talking heads trying to force Gore out, the swiftboating of Kerry, and the bullshit run up to the Iraq war, I think people are every bit as angry at the media as they are at Washington.
The media narrative always hurts the democrats. Everyone seems to know this except the democratic party which seems terrified by it. Now they've got a candidate who they think can get a good narrative, but he can't. Just as everyone thought war hero Kerry would get a good narrative. For the most part he did, right up until he was nominated.
The only way the democrats win the media game is to have a candidate who is mostly immune to media attacks. That's how you change the media - you get the people to repudiate it. And to have the Democratic Party actively call bullshit on it, instead of lamenting it after the fact, let's run against some of the most hated people in the country.
I almost believe we have a shot at repudiating the narrative this year with Clinton. There were a couple of moments during the WVA primary coverage when the talking heads asked if this wasn't a repudiation of the media's coronation of Obama. It quickly faded, but at least it crossed their minds.
Having the primary and GE end with the story that the voters overruled the media would be a great thing, IMO.
I would feel the same way, btw, if Obama had been treated by the press the way Clinton had and it was Clinton they were prematurely picking. It would then be a benefit of nominating Obama and not a small one. Because the media is no democrat's friend. The minute you think they are or could be is the minute you're fucked.
Over time, the system does self-correct
Challenging the wishes of 60% of voters who want the contest to continue to the end, mocking 72% who think the media can shove it with a coronation and probably won't be any more sympathetic to Obama doing it himself, seems beyong foolish. Self-destructive, even.
Maybe I wasn't invited, but has any candidate ever thrown a victory party per se in a primary race? Ever? Nobody likes a braggart.
IIRC, this did not turn out well:
Wow, a counter-narrative
Heh.

I Just Worry the Self-Correction Will Come in October
and not in June.
I have to think Self-Coronation is a bad idea. It's a sign that you fear no one else is going to do it for you.
I would love to know what the SDs think about this particularly plan. This surely must be one of the most divisive things he could do.
The "Presumptuous Nominee" is starting to propagate
and the media love to destroy cocky Democrats.
If Obama "coronates" himself, he's feeding into the narrative of his own destruction.

Jeralyn Asks a Good Question
If Obama has won this thing, then why are his surrogates going out and trashing Hillary with old, recycled crap like her summer internship with that San Francisco law firm? See http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/5/19/...
Kind of undermines their whole "it's over" meme. Not to mention undermining all the claims that Hillary hasn't been vetted and there's all this new stuff out there. If they had new stuff, why would they be pushing this recycled crap, which Jeralyn does a nice job taking apart.
she worked for a law firm that defended leftist radicals?
if so, i've just moved from voting my identity to actuay liking her.
It is in today's WaPo
Lurve the headline:
Clinton Quiet About Own Radical Ties
She was an intern--honestly, how much does a law firm intern really do?
Such horseshit.
Maybe they can't help themselves?
Makes me feel even less sanguine about the prospect of the Obama Movement having 8 years in the White House…

The Obamabots
were out in force this weekend on all the blogs that support HRC. What can this mean?
1. They know they're gonna get their derrieres handed out to them on Tuesday night, at least in KY (Oregon would be nice but I don't wanna get my hopes up... remember how we were all in shock after Indiana?)
2. They know they're losing the popular vote as we approach the end of the contests
3. They feel Obama's general standing weakening
What else could it be when you have the media, the DNC, the $$ and TEH MATH in your favor?
Go Global!
Someone should plot
the loudness of Obama WWTSBQ
rhetoric as a function of the likelihood of Hillary doing well in an upcoming contest. I'm curious as to the steepness of the relationship.
Just to be clear on the Clinton old-time associates thing
What horrible thungs was Clinton associated with in Oakland during 1971?
Civil rights, constitutional law, racism. Oooo, scary stuff.
Plus, Carl Oglesby is one of the good guys. He had the good sense and decency to tell Ayers and Dohrn and the rest of those fools to go piss up a rope when they decided it was smart to start blowing things up. Oglesby, and others, advocated a vigorous and serious but moderated program of civil disobedience. Ayers and Dohrn killed a bunch of people.
Oglesby doesn't hurt Clinton anywhere near as much as Ayers hurts Obama. Bringing this up is hardly within the bounds of Dean's call for greater harmony, and raises an issue Obama needs to have go away. Another self-destructive move.
Once Again, One Candidate Did Something
The thing that's impressive about Clinton's "radical ties" is that they involve her actually doing things on behalf of causes she cared about like civil rights. If you look at her college and law school years she did a lot of things trying to find out exactly what her political beliefs were and how best to apply her skills in ways to forward those beliefs. From studying Alinsky to going to work for the "radical" law firm in California to helping establish a Yale journal dedicated to social change and taking shifts covering the Black Panther trial to make sure the Government behaved itself. Even after she decided to give up on working at the Children's Defense Fund to move to Arkansas, she constantly continued to work for causes that interested her. She found causes in Arkansas and went to work.
Compare and contrast to a certain Illinois Senator who likes to hang out with Ayers (who from what I can tell is not only a criminal, but a self-aggrandizing jerk), which I suppose appeals to a certain kind of elite liberal and Obama likes to tout his work as a community organizer, but it's unclear what he ever actually did to further any cause other than his own ambition. Indeed, I've seen little that indicates Obama has any interest in doing any particular job, he always seems to be running or striving for the next step.
Hate to break into a family fest
Obviously, all Corrente big dogs are into this act. Hate
to break in, but I want dispense some Tylnol PM. Guys, self coronation is consistent with the Obama way. Don't forget the dumping of the FDR coalition to be replaced with AA and CC (creative class). Also on the list dumping the party's social network organization with the new "hyper competent"* (coined by Matt Stoller) Obama infrastructure.
Obama does not believe in democracy, if it does involve AA and CC.
*If the infrastructure is hypercompetent, how come Obama wins only smaller states, had to cheat in the caucuses and have a 48 state strategy?
KoshemBos
I wouldn't push "hyper-competent" ....
... if I were Matt. All too close to uber-competent, eh?
I think what must be meant is that they're hyper-competent at gaming the system and stealing stuff? Essential skills for the Village.

Obama is THE LAST person
who should bring up the subject of radical connections. Seriously -- that legitimizes an issue that has been kept almost completely hidden from most Democrats.
Could they be innoculating themselves?
Against something worse to come? I would have thought that would be something in real estate, but what would I know?

I fully believe Obama is going to walk this thing back
and say "Coronation? What coronation?! I'm just making a speech here. Can't a guy make a speech w/out everyone asking me all these questions?! I just want to eat my waffle."

Koshembos, excellent point. If this ubernetwork is so
dawg gone fantastic why isn't Barry winning where it counts. Just like all the other BS, this "ubernetwork" is part of the WWTSBQ
.
BTW, has anyone explored in depth the relationship between the Deaniacs, Dean and Obama. I've only read a little on Deaniacs joining in on Barry's campaign but is there a direct line between Dean and Barry. Are any rules being broken here/

Ayers/Dorn hasn't blown up yet, really--
they're trying to pre-empt it, but now it's too late-- the GOP will absolutely kill him with it.
