The basic problem here is that too many people don't understand the seriousness of the situation.

Americans fail to understand that they are facing the real prospect of a decade of little or no economic growth ...

Steve, if I may call you Steve, there's something you need to understand:

Real wages have been flat since the 1970s, and declining under Bush.

We don't see any of the growth.

So who gives a Fuck about you and your understanding?

It's so EASY when the jokes just write themselves!

In this case, of course, Pearlstein IS the joke. So it might be more on point to state that the jokes just shit all over themselves.

And I'm sure Steven and his newspaper have written numerous articles over the last 40 years pointing out the simple fact that real wages have been flat (or actually declining), and demanded a 700 gazillion dollar bailout to fix the problem.
