The SEIU, Service Emloyees Internal Union, headed by Andy Stern has decided to concentrate its effort, not on the goals and the benefits of the union members, on usurping parts of the UNITE HERE union. SEIU represents over 100 occupations in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The main divisions are health care (around 50% of the union's membership), including hospital, home care and nursing home workers, public services (government employees), and property services (including janitors and security officers). UNITE HERE represents predominantly in the hotel, food services employees with a very strong division of the gaming industry (e.g. Las Vegas).
Andy Stern, the strong man behind SEIU sometimes called czar Stern, has decided to invest millions in making himself stronger instead of strengthenning the interests of his about 2 million members. He borrowed close to $20 Million for the war of the union worlds. The two unions have clearly different target members. No one threatens SEIU or its members and certainly not UNITE HERE which is a highly sophisticated union with databases, research tools a and absolute dedication to its own members interests.
QMartinez has asked where has the liberals gone to. Clearly, the foundation of any progressive movement is union members and their interests. One of the country's strongest and most visible unions, SEIU, is rotting from it head down. Liberals/progressive everywhere in the US should realize that union leaders such as Andy Stern should be forced out before they cause further damage to the progressive agenda.

Pissing away union money
I'm glad you bring up the need for union reform. Unions, like so many think-tanks and .orgs, have become extensions of the FKDP
rather than "serious" advocatse for their supposed cause.
What got under my skin during the primary was SEIU announcing a $75 million universal healthcare campaign then endorsing Obama *after* the Harry and Louise ads. That should have been an immediate disqualifier, unless the SEIU didn't value UHC as much as they claim.
Only tyrants rig elections.
Ah, but it created more evidence for the public to believe Obama
would actually work hard for universal health CARE.
Ha, ha, ha. Fooled ya, rubes!
Now, if they'd said it was for health insurance reform it just wouldn't have been as persuasive, right? Bamboozling works, at least for awhile. Long enough to get elected. Not good to govern with, however.
