Watchword of the Day: American Samoa

Expect to hear a lot about American Samoa in the coming weeks in light of the passage of the minimum wage bill. For instance, this exchange between Barney Frank and Patrick McHenry.

The basic backstory is that Republicans are going to keep pushing the accusation that American Samoa is the only territory exempt from the federal minimum wage law because Nancy Pelosi is doing a favor to Starkist, which has canneries in Samoa and is headquartered in San Francisco.
