"We can win this one—but we're going to have to fight for every vote."

vastleft's picture

The subject line comes from MoveOn.org's latest mailing.

What have they or Obama done to fight for votes like mine (Boomer, feminist, secularist, Constitution-defender, Bush-hater)?

Not a damn thing that I'm aware of. For the life of me, I'll never understand why they decided to split their constituency by conducting a straw-poll of their members and going all-in with the winner.

I keep forgetting: post-partisanship is only for Republicans' benefit.

Ha Ha

When I saw just the title, I thought this would be a post about Hillary supporters fighting for every SD vote at the convention. Honestly, I'd forgotten MoveOn even existed. I guess they're not fighting for my vote.

They wouldn't have to fight for so many votes now if they'd just been polite enough to ask for a few months ago.

FIGHT is the key word

Normal stance for O team is leg cocked back ready to kick. I never bought into that Unity cr*p for one second. I've got a handful of friends that joined the Unity team and their rhetoric is aggressive and illogical. They DO want to fight me into supporting Obama. Where's the post partisan "let's live in a world of warm negotiations and respectful understanding and lower the rising oceans" approach? Markos' dream has come true - the Dems are playing like the republicans now...but for what.

The first rule about fight club is we never dis O.

The Irony of Unity

Early on in the cycle I mentioned to a couple of Dem groups I was part of that the primary was starting to get ugly and that we needed to get the supporters of the different candidates together. (At the time I was holding out for Clark to jump in and liking Richardson.) Needless to say, the leaders of the groups were Obama supporters and didn't think things were uncivil.

Despite all the talk about uniting the country, bringing the country together and practicing a different kinda politics, many Obama supporters do not notice their brutish behavior. I'm starting to believe that they really believe that Hillary (and her supporters) are evil and that they are above reproach.

Only tyrants rig elections.

Militant

Yes, the OFB seems to be completely unaware of their militant lean and tendancies. I sometimes joke about them being the Footsoldiers of Hope & Change, because if they can't easily convince you of the awesomeness of their chosen one, they go into kill mode pretty quickly. If they can't get you with "you're a racist" the next one is "you're a really a Republican".

"We're going to have to fight for every vote."

Oh, they've been fighting, all right. I'm just not sure they've been fighting for votes. In fact, they've really stopped fighting with the "he's 2% less suck than McCain" argument. No, they are fighting to make sure that you know that Obama is Lord. And that, as in any religion, it is not wise to be on the wrong side of the Lord.

But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...

If we are Republicans,

then aren't we Obama's target market?

Indeed, maybe that's our way to effect change

We go to Obama campaign offices saying that we're Republicans interested in becoming Obamacans. We can ask for Universal Healthcare, restoration of the 1st and 4th Amendments, etc., and maybe we'll get them!

It can't possibly go as badly as when I reached out to ask how we might bridge the gulf between the Obama camp and PUMAs, when they literally refused to listen to the issues (even when they asked me what my concerns were, they proceeded to talk over me, turn their heads before I got a syllable out, gave business cards but didn't return calls, etc.).

We could also go as evangelicals

They'd welcome us with open arms, then, we'd ask for UHC and all the progressive stuff... all in the name of Jesus... that should go over well.

Questions on UHC from Rick Warren?

Anyone know? I read over at TL that both of ducked the prisons question.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
