Here:
I would add that Obama also uses right wing frames far more often than Edwards or Clinton, Obama’s senior economic advisers are virtually reactionaries, and talk of “hope” doesn’t make you a progressive. (Remember Mr. “Morning in America” Reagan if you are inclined to disagree.)
It remains unclear to me that Edwards supporters would go to Obama if Edwards dropped out, but the bottom line is simpler: there is no reason for Edwards to drop out. He’s still in the running, and if he wants to choose which of the other candidates wins if he doesn’t, walking into the convention with a block of delegates large enough to do it is the best way.
And Obama isn’t Edwards: he is significantly to the right of Edwards and on the fight/compromise spectrum he is actually the most conciliatory of the three candidates. Edwards supporters want a fighter: that isn’t Obama.
Edwards is alive and kicking, and a force to be reckoned with. There’s no good reason for him to ever drop out of the nomination contest. Time for Obama supporters to tend to their own campaign, not to Edwards’s.
Bingo. The rightwing frames really stick in my craw, and encouraging Republicans to pick the Democratic candidate as as Obamacrats sends a big Fuck you to the base as well.
I don’t know what the polling says on whether Edwards supporters make Hillary or Obama their second choice, but for me, I’ll take Hillary’s technocracy over Obama’s vacuous oratory and right wing advisors any day, especially after his rightward slide on Social Security.
NOTE TPM finally gets it. Kinda. Greg Sargent:
But here’s the thing about this. For literally the past year we’ve been hearing justifications for the fact that Edwards, despite being competitive in Iowa polls, didn’t get the attention that his Dem rivals got — he didn’t raise as much money; his candidacy isn’t as historic as theirs; etc., etc. Indeed, the virtual media blackout of Edwards got so glaringly obvious that even New York Times public editor Clark Hoyt urged his paper to give Edwards more attention back in November. At a certain point we should just acknowledge that Edwards basically got screwed and that this shouldn’t have happened to the extent that it did.
Well, sure, Greg, and a nice boot to the ribs of John Edwards with the past tense of “got”.
More importantly, where the fuck was TPM when all this was happening? I thought, you know, new media not like the old, and all that.
