Not that this will stop the coming deluge of BLLFOV, but:
...there’s not much evidence in the vote for anything besides a broad shift to Democrats, almost the same (~8%) across all the states, and probably a reaction to the state of the economy, stupid.... basically there was a national wave against Republicans, suggesting that we don’t need a complex narrative.

"a national wave against Republicans"
--except for the Democratic candidate, who wasn't against them.
May be off topic, but since Krugman and
economics go hand in hand, from Yahoo! financial pages: "President Obama's First Step: Reset Expectations"
And watch out for the video on the site.

HISTORY, n. An account mostly false, of events mostly unimportant, which are brought about by rulers mostly knaves, and soldiers mostly fools.

laying it on really really thick--
NYT -- After a Decisive Victory, Obama Chooses Transition Team as Challenges Loom -- http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/06/us/pol...
"...The election of Mr. Obama amounted to a national catharsis — a repudiation of a historically unpopular Republican president and his economic and foreign policies, and an embrace of Mr. Obama’s call for a change in the direction and the tone of the country.
But it was also an exorcism of sorts of some of the most divisive episodes of the country’s history with regard to African Americans. It was a moment unthinkable even just two years ago. ..."
"Divisive"?
That's the most bizarre word choice to describe, oh, slavery and lynching that I can imagine.

The SCLM
is tossing around the new political vocabulary as if it weren't anything, at all, as if words don't have any real meaning. Get ready for the continued over-use of words such as division, unity, hope, change, bipartisan...etc.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
Do you have a TV, and watch it?
Because I think that may be one difference in how people react.

"Divisive" is a code-word
It means STFU
. Now that Obama's been elected, it's now officially time to STFU
about race issues, because it's "divisive" to bring them up.
Just Television?
The very thing we're responding to was in print media. It's hardly just television, unless I missed your point. The media is fucked from top to bottom and cross-media.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
But, as we learned in the primaries, "they" can bring up race
in order to tell us to STFU
. It's the same ol' pattern, take any scenario that they consider problematic and label it as racist. It was all the rage during the primaries but faded from favor during the general. Sounds like it's back in full swing and if so, STFU
.
I love this job!
I love this job!
I'm not sure. People who need help with racial equality....
... may be joining us under the Obama bus.
Now that the racist Clintons have been put back in their place, post-racialism may begin in earnest.
As many have speculated and feared, Obama's election may be used as an excuse to cross racism off the list of national problems. If people are going to start calling the issue "divisive," that just may be a tip-off of a brewing meme.
