What Susie said

Fucking awesome:

To Philadelphians (and the thousands of “Rocky” fans who flock here every year), this movie isn’t about winning - it’s about class.

It’s about invisible people, living in forgotten, decaying neighborhoods. It’s about the search for dignity.

It’s about making people see your life.

At the beginning of the movie, Rocky’s a nobody, a neighborhood thug. By the end of the movie, he’s somebody people look up to. That was the trophy. That was the point of the whole damned movie.

The Clinton-bashers already have such a high opinion of their own self-worth, they can’t possibly understand Hillary Clinton’s appeal to the working class, or why “Rocky” resonates with her and her supporters. I’ll tell you why:

She sees them.

She sees them, and not like a particularly distasteful bug under a microscope, or as a bunch of bigots (as convenient as that might be for some to think).

This woman who has spent her entire life in public service connects with working people. Well, why wouldn’t she? They know life is hard and courage means to get up every day and keep trying.

This is Jesse Jackson's "they work every day," and not, I might add, "Come on! I just answered, like, eight questions", and definitely not "You are wearing me out, brother".

Sometimes showing up is the only victory they’ll ever know.

They know college graduates look down on them. They know there’s a whole world out there they’ll never touch. They see those well-to-do people sometimes, in the expensive seats at the ballpark or on TV, but their lives don’t intersect much.

Hillary Clinton talks to them as if they matter, when they haven’t mattered for a very long time.

And of course the academic bloggers find this just a little… icky. They use their grad-school argument skills to ridicule the people who find hope in her. (Who are these pathetic people who will settle for mere dignity when they can have transcendence? Or the Unity Pony?)

Or, I might add, a fucking $100 ham.

Bingo. Double fucking bingo.

low information voter: people I disagree with. We are all low information voters, just on different subjects.

Money troubles

Speaking of how class if affecting this race, Clinton is trailing Obama by a margin of 2-1 in donations. Mind you, she was already deeply behind in him in available cash before March.

I'm telling you the media narrative is playing a huge role in this. When one candidate is demonized and presented as a certain loser and the other is lionized to the point of gross distortion how could this tally not be a foregone conclusion?

November

so what are we going to do after the convention? Do the Obama understand that should Obama prevail all the hatred directed toward Clinton will be redirected against Obama? Or do they think Mr. Hopey Unity Pony's eloquence will conquer all?

I Always Remember What a Single Mother in NH Told Me

"[The Clintons] are the only ones who care about people like me."

Now, that's obviously not entirely true, but to the woman, it felt true. Which, of course, as Lance Mannion points out, is why the Village hates them.

Obama had a lot of money in OH and TX

and lost both (although he managed to steal some of TX back through the caucuses).

So, just think of Obama having more money because his cost per voter is higher; he needs to cash to overcome his lack of intrinsic appeal to genuine Democrats.

Simple Answers to Simple Questions

Do the Obama understand that should Obama prevail all the hatred directed toward Clinton will be redirected against Obama? No.

Or do they think Mr. Hopey Unity Pony’s eloquence will conquer all? Yes.

Polls show a near-tie in PA

That's why the incredible money disadvantage worries the hell out of me. PPP even has Obama leading.

When you add in the "Clinton will lose!" lie taking hold, it just feels awful. Damn, I hate this. I feel as though our GE fate--with Obama being an all but certain loss and Clinton presenting a decent chance, at least--will be decided in PA and IN and it doesn't look good--at all.

On the money and the polls

FWIW, Davidson, I had the same feeling of despair and wanting to blog about gardening before OH and TX, where Hillary stomped Obama (except, as usual, in the game-able, non-secret ballot caucuses).

It's worth remembering that as bloggers, our heads are often in or near the Village and the A-list space, which is a toxic environment for us. But there are great trends out where the real voters are that we don't see, and that the polls may not show, or may not even be designed to show. One thing that's been a constant trend in this election is that the experts have always been wrong.

So, I attempt to rein in my emotions...

Obama Officially Proposes Vote Theft

See - http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/4/4/17314... - where he proposes splitting the Michigan delegates 50/50 and then he'll agree to seat them. I'm sure those unemployed auto workers will be so grateful for Obama's generosity in willing to allow their representatives to participate in the convention, they won't mind at all that their votes won't count. You know how those "low information" voters are.

So good it has to be repeated, Lambert!

So, just think of Obama having more money because his cost per voter is higher; he needs to cash to overcome his lack of intrinsic appeal to genuine Democrats.

Clinton Has The Real Money

Her husband made major bucks since 2000 (over $100 million). Of course, being immoral, selfish centrists out to destroy the Democratic party, they paid $33 million of that in taxes (at a rate more than 10% higher than others in their same income tax bracket*) and gave more than $10 million to charity. Of course, as Obamabots on other blogs have already pointed out, most of those charitable donations went to the Clinton Family Foundation. Which has less than 1% administrative expenses and gives to such unworthy causes as Katrina relief, the Arkansas Public Library, and Pediatric AIDS. Selfish Bastards!

* I'm relieved to see the Clintons paid a higher tax rate than this humble public servant. I'm pissed off to see that most of their fellow Richie Riches did not.

This demagouguery is too

This demagouguery is too much fun. Let me try my hand at it: Obama's fundraising totals means that he is selfishly asking for donations for his campaign that could be used to save young women dying in ERs. He's like Hitler (right, Xenophon?), only he hates everyone.

Plus he likes jamón.

You cannot deny

that he is a weak candidate, dmd76. He outspent Clinton 2-1 in TX, and still lost(don't talk about the caucuses, yes they helped his delegate total, but are undemocratic, and show no representation of public will), he is outspending her in PA, and is still trailing. He has outspent her for almost the entire season, yet he still can't close the deal, even with media coverage that treats him better than Clinton, will only win by the nomination by gaming the system, the rules of which were set in place by his staunchest supporters.

Admit it, you threw your support behind a candidate who has never faced a serious opponent(until now), never faced a serious Republican, ever, and reports show that he has expanded his support as much as possible, and is now in decline nationally. He will lead us to defeat in the GE.

Hey, nothing wrong with jamon as such.

All I'm saying is that fondling a $100 dollar ham in the Italian market would be a lot more OK with me if Obama had a truly universal health care plan, instead of the bogus collection of Republican talking points he's got now. See, Hillary tells the story of a young woman who couldn't get into an E.R. and died because she didn't have what some people can spend on that fancy hunk of ham, and a truly universal system would have prevented her death.

So forgive my humorless on that point, because I see myself and people I know in that young woman's shoes. Much as I enjoy good food.
