Surprised
I was surprised that I was asking myself that question, yesterday. I'd pretty much convinced myself that it wouldn't matter who Obama (or McCain for that matter) picked for his vice president, but this really did bring some finality for me. But, at the same time it opened up a whole new discussion for me.
I'm now honestly confused as to what my plans are for this election. This just brought my disenchantment full-cirlce. I find I'm back to where I began at the end of the primary season, and to be honest it's not even one step closer to the candidate I feel I should be voting for, now.
The choice of Biden seems incredibly cynical for me, and I'm tired of getting these mixed messages every other day. I'm completely done with trying to find good in everything.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
Lost and disillusioned
You summed it up better than I could. It's ironic -- the Buffy song I linked to is one I criticized heavily when the show was on because it epitomized the series' tendency for postmodern, self-punishing, and often nihilistic endings. It was PoMo melodrama, if you will. Now, it's an apt description of how I see the party and the end of the process.
"The battle's done and we kind of won
So we sound our victory cheer
Where do we go from here?
Why is the path unclear
When we know hope is near?
Understand we'll go hand in hand,
but we'll walk alone in fear
Tell me!
Where do we go from here?"
