Where ya been, Jake?

Commendable understatement from ABC's Jake Tapper:

I'd posit at the very least that it's not keeping with Obama's lofty campaign rhetoric to compare Clinton's tenacity to psychosis.

Welcome aboard, Jake! But we've been dealing with this shit for months!

Via Shakespeare's Sister, see the Hillary Sexism Watch. She's up to 90 (ninety). Drop in the bucket, I'd say -- I don't think she's even tracking OFB material online. Like this, for example, from very our own local Obama canvasser:

The Wellesley girl Hillary in Carhartts, slinging back shots of Crown Royal, when she’s never even fueled up a car and can’t figure out how to get coffee out of a gas station coffee machine.

Sure, mercg8's not saying Hillary's psychotic, but saying she's never fueled up a car? Why? Because girls don't?

NOTE Zuzu! Nice to see you around here. Can you get Shakes to put the Watch on a separate page of its own? So we can link to it?

Now they're taking shots at Wellesley?

Good Lord. My mother and sister went there. And for the record, markg8: they're not Wellesley girls, they're Wellesley women. Your bigoted foolishness is pathetic. You're a disgrace.

While Clinton dares to propose policy solutions, Obama, of the Rick Steves' School of Foreign Policy, is out there claiming that he understands "the people" of the world because he has an impoverished grandmother living in a hut in Kenya. Quick question: why the hell is she still living in a hut in Kenya? Can't Obama send some damn change her way?

I swear...

the Obots are just clueless.

I went over to FDL, and they're all laughing about a McCain mothers day ad -- comparing McCain and his mom to Norman Bates and his mom.

No one seems to know, or care, that Obama is tanking with seniors, and that the ad is designed to appeal to seniors -- and that mocking seniors for being old isn't exactly smart politics.

So I posted a comment over there.... gonna go back an see how many people flame me for explaining to them that this is a good ad, designed to exploit the "presumptive nominee's" weaknesses with seniors....

Seniors

Hope you'll get to be seniors. I thought the ad was a nice touch; one doesn't have to like McCain the enjoy the to exchange.

It's not only not smart politics to mock seniors, it's also toddlerish, non-leftish and contradictory. Many of the wine drinkers supporting Obama are quite close to seniority (they try to ignore it).

KoshemBos

I want to add to my post

This isn't the first time (nor do I doubt it'll be the last) that markg8 has spewed idiotic nonsense, sometimes with a nice undertone of misogyny. Hence, my remarks to him.

This latest attack on Clinton by the OFB--including Democratic officials!--on Mother's Day for crying out loud, just sent me over the edge. Calling this woman psychotic for campaigning until the end? C'mon! Do they have no sense of shame or even history? Never before has a candidate in a virtual tie been asked to step aside. And for what? What terrible harm is she causing? Is this how Obama is going to deal with McCain, demanding that he quit the race for the good of the country because somehow competing is "old politics," divisive?

@Paul: Seriously? Who are these people?

I'd be really pissed

if Hillary doesn't take this to the end, to the bitter end, to the Convention.

Why?

Because I want people to see us, women, feminists, workers, latin@s and more hammering at the gates, demanding to be heard, supporting our Candidate as far as she can go.

And I want the party elite, the 'creative class' to understand that THEY are the barrier to her ground-breaking run, and that the next time this tide washes ashore, it'll most likely drown them, if it doesn't do so this time.

Getting off my high horse, I really liked McCain's mother's day video and I'm not at all a McCain fan. Seeing the love between him and her made him real, ya know?

Maybe I missed the irony...

... in mercg8's comments. The boilermaker episode isn't any different than the bowling episode -- except Hillary didn't choke and splutter from the whiskey, of course. So, you know, sauce for the ganger. Irony takes a light touch, though. Not that I always have it.

if Hillary doesn’t take this to the end, to the bitter end,

gotta disagree.

the problem is that whoever the nominee is, they will need the summer to get their GE campaign organized. Obama is clearly not interested in any kind of effort at setting up "generic" preparations, indeed, he's trying to not merely create a GE infrastructure, he's trying to take over the DNC structure and make his priorities their priorities.

AFter June 1, I think Clinton should just publicly announce that if the nomination is not resolved by June 15, she will not be available to run in any capacity on the Democratic ticket regardless of what happens between then and the convention.

And after June 15, she should say that she thinks Obama is unelectable, and for that reason she's going to put together an idenependent campaign for President.

I too want Clinton to keep fighting, but to ask her to fight under "Obama rules" is asking too much. I'd rather see her change the game...

She's got to stay in through the summer

The chances are extremely high that an Over Confident Obama (or his OFBs) will trigger an angry reaction in McCain and open a flood of some of the (mostly) suppressed information that we (as good loyal Democrats) aren't even aware of.

Like the fact that the guy hasn't held a real job. Or the depth of weirdness in some of his (past and present) supporters.

If she ran as Independent

I'd vote for her in a heartbeat.

But I don't see her doing that, and so I agree Katiebird, that she should stay in through the summer. I think things are going to happen which make BO unviable by the convention. And if he's crowned in June, well, we are sunk by August.

If he's not ready to win

I think he shouldn't have started this fight. Talk about impulsive self-destruction, except he'll be taking the whole party down with him.

BTW, this is DODDering old fool yesterday on Press the Meat, offering as to how Clinton can drop out gracefully:

SEN. DODD: You know, having been a candidate, it's awfully difficult when you're going 180 miles an hour in on[e] direction and you have a rough night, as Mrs. Clinton did, my colleague Senator Clinton did last Tuesday night, to expect to within 48 hours or 72 hours to reverse field, to stop everything and go in a different direction is asking way too much in my view. Give her a chance to breathe, to settle down, to recognize what's going on here. She'll make the right choice.

I can almost hear, "...poor thing." Wow, that's almost as patronizing as Obama's pander about pro-choice "forces":

The mistake that pro-choice forces have sometimes made in the past, and this is a generalization so it has not always been the case, has been to not acknowledge the wrenching moral issues involved in it.

You know this won't happen

And after June 15, she should say that she thinks Obama is unelectable, and for that reason she’s going to put together an idenependent campaign for President.

Sen Clinton is a dedicated Democratic partisan, not a Lieberman. She won't do this. If she believes this (and I think "unelectable" is a little far, "very unlikely to be elected" is what I'll commit to), she will be working for surviving and opposing President McCain.

And if he crowns himself on May 20...

... some of us will be rather unhappy. Process is so important, don't you know.

Lambert, He's already on the cover of Time

-- as the WINNER (for God's sake!) Didn't he have to pose for that photo? Couldn't he have stopped them from using that phrase?

It's astonishing. Seriously. I think the man already went too far.

They really are trying to suppress the vote, aren't they?

Well, fuck them. Not that I have any particular reason not to trust Time, or its editorial judgment, of course.
