Bartcop
according to Bartcop Taibbi was one of the most notorious Hillary haters during the primary.
That leaves racist, then.
Or, to be generous, Rovian plant. Are there any other prevailing theories about why someone could possibly question Obama?
Or more simply, a young sexist
who couldn't deal with a middle aged woman as president. It was Obama's maleness which drew him in, and now that Hillary is not part of the equation, he's paying attention to policy rather than gender. Obama was always a fail on those grounds, but his gender was more important.

Now He Talks Like That
When it mattered, did Taibbi do a journalistic piece on Obama's history (or the caucuses or where the money was coming from or his voting record or any other investigative journalism) or did he do a love story? He did the love story.
It's like when a friend marries an asshole and then you have to listen to her (or him) complain about her husband being an asshole. Well, duh, what kind of man did you marry?
Obama, like Bush IMO, wasn't exactly hiding himself. Anyone looking could see who he is. That people didn't look is not, IMO, Obama's fault. I blame him for a lot, but I don't blame him for that. That's on all those liberals and progressives who told themselves he would change for them. They never do.

He showed us, and told us, who he was, quite often.
He even laughed in Rachel Maddow's face during an interview when she complained about his scarcely ever mentioning he was a Democrat.
A uniquely perfect storm, brewing for decades, reached gale force last year. A good and partisan Democratic candidate could have quite easily smashed and quite possibly killed the Republican party. Instead we got the Duke of Bipartisanship, whose most relentless broadsides were aimed at other Democrats and who praised Reagan and slammed the Clintons. And now the Democrats are looking at possibly very hard times.
I think he's a Republican mole, and doing a damn fine job of it.

Taibbi was a bigoted fool when it mattered
He chose to revel in rabid hate instead of reporting on the absurdly obvious. Last year, Taibbi deemed Clinton a villain deserving only of our ridicule and contempt, and since every villain needs a hero, Obama was it, reality be damned (Check out RollingStone's covers, like this one or this one).
That's why I can't take any of his "reporting" seriously. As part of the media, he's part of the reason why we're stuck with Obama now! It's simply astonishing how quickly he and other media stars can turn on a dime without self-reflection (see: Frank Rich, Bob Herbert). He chose not to see. He, like many others, wanted to believe the batshit hate that passed for "journalism" last year. I bet you that even today Taibbi and his fans from last year still cling to the fantasy of Clinton being inherently evil (No matter what she says or does, she's never to be trusted!). They'll never admit they got played by their own hate. That they chose the Trojan horse (who even told everyone he was a Trojan horse) and slurred us for backing the Democrat. No, they'll just whine over how Obama has somehow changed or that Clinton would have been no better (even though the entire basis of Obama's candidacy was him being radically better than Clinton).*
Besides, Taibbi has always come across as self-centric as if he was desperate to show you how pissed he was, as if his feelings were the story.
*To be clear (edit): It's said as if Obama and Clinton would have been relatively equal in their fuckery, when all I heard last year was how Obama was so out of Clinton's league it was like comparing Abraham Lincoln or FDR to Nixon.
Does Taibbi's flipping the bozo bit on public option...
... signal anything?
Is a creative-class tide turning, or is this just too little, too late?
The bozo bit model...
is binary.
Surely we're capable of recognizing a range of finer distinctions?

That's the virtue of the term, IMHO
It means that you've "stuck a fork in it."

Not cynical enough, VL
Career "liberals"--and especially those with monetary interests in running "anti-establishment" stories--need to have a bogeyman to rail against to push their product. As some have mentioned, we knew some of this shit would go down this way.
After the Harry and Louise ads--Harry and Louise, for fuck's sake!--if you didn't know this you were dillusional, an idiot, or in on the scam. I'm pretty sure these "journos" were in on the scam. Now they can push their product because their product is more in demand.
Only tyrants rig elections.
Not sure I'm following you
Are you saying that Taibbi is setting himself up to be target practice?
Mostly, I'm seeing anyone who makes what's at heart the case for single-payer gets pointed to as if they were Exhibit A for public option, any public option, except for those who get shrill enough about it to actually call out the "activist" enablers.
