White House seeks commander-in-chief for Iraq war effort

And Steven Hadley's been tasked with the job of finding one. Here are the qualifications:

Mr. Hadley is interviewing candidates, including military generals, for a new high-profile job that people in Washington are calling the war czar.

[HADLEY] “What we need is someone with a lot of stature within the government who can make things happen.”

Er.

Um.

Gosh, it's like clubbing a baby seal, isn't it?

'Cause, you know, with God in the White House and all, I thought there'd be somebody there with "stature" who can "make things happen" already.

But I guess not. I think I'll go get really, really drunk now, and maybe when I wake up tomorrow all this will be over.

now is the time to figure out what the plan was 4 years ago!

once upon a time I worked for a dot.com and we used to ask about when the promised day of riches, our IPO, would come. I would also ask about what was our plan to continue in existence and make money. one day, m onths later, after nasdaq started melting down, the company created cross-fucntional teams so we could all brainstorm on how to promote and advance the company- the engineers were not at all pleased to do what they thought were marketing jobs. on that day, i realized no one was in control and there was no plan.

here we are, 4 years into a war, and they are trying to find someone to be in charge. there is no plan and no one knows what they're doing. who would take this job? why not just call the position "Scapegoat and Fall Guy of the Iraq War," instead of War Czar?

War Czar

I thought this was the President's job?
