Why do the OFB hate old people?

lambert's picture

Here's one Jed -- frequent Kos poster, Obama supporter -- with a humorous example of Unity in action:

[JEDREPORT] I do hope people don't stereotype him just because he's old and senile. Maybe he shouldn't run because the last thing the elderly in this country need is the triggering of ugly stereotypes about their bowel habits. They already suffer from enough incontinence.

Ha ha! Teh funny!

Hey, come on. Where's your sense of humor?

Hey, are these the people I trust not to privatize Social Security, or what?

Anybody know anything else about Jed? Because he seems like a guy with many different interests. [OK, OK, this has just been a teaser....]

For example, he's a former Hill staffer, he fits the profile of a former Cantwell staffer, he's a video expert, and he's expressed strong views that the "War Room" video was legit, when in fact it was doctored, according to the movie's own director, who supplied an official transcript. Anybody got any more information on this guy, to tie this package up with a great big bow?

UPDATE Sluggo at MyDD has the YouTube Ground Zero for the "War Room" episode of Ratfucking. See sockpuppets here and here. Oddly, or not, the posts seem to have been deleted...

"There's no doubt that eventually both Florida and Michigan will be included and have a voice at the convention. Once the nominee is determined, the Florida and Michigan delegations will be seated so they can participate in the convention and help us unite as a party to take on John McCain."

The infamous 48-State strategy!

is much better when served up against McCain--Obama supporters would all be better off (and our party and the country would be too) if they knew it.

by the end of this election Daily Kos will look like Democratic Underground. My guess is that Kos will get bored with the whole scene and sell Kos Media to some conglomerate which will proceed to run it into the ground.

none of that will matter as long as we have net neutrality.

How can you think that's acceptable?

If we let it go, there'll only be more of it. First, they came for Hillary...

It's a chain:

0. ?????

1. The "editor" who doctored the video.

2. The sock puppets who uploaded the video to YouTube

3. The "good friend" who peddled the YouTube to the A list and the press, once the video had been doctored and uploaded.

It seems like JedReport fits the profile of the sort of person who could be both links 1 and 2. There's no proof that he is, however. Note that a legitimate video expert who supported Obama would have every incentive to comment on such a hot topic.

JedReport seems unlikely to have played role #3, however.

And ??? is who initiated -- and funded? -- the project....

example--sorry...

i know they're rovian turds--that's why i want them doing all this shit against McCain and not her.

i fear they don't hate McCain as much as they hate her, so won't go all out if Obama is the nominee.

the anonymous sockpuppets prove that. This again raises the question: Who is John Amato's "good friend?"

They love to hear that.

all over the late-night shows as McCain jokes, and it's already established as one of the very very very few anti-McCain things the media likes to propagate.

and there have already been some fab youtube things--that video about how McCain is older than the Lincoln Tunnel and the Golden Gate Bridge, etc--cleverly pushes it too.

amberglow's picture

the media won't push war stuff against him, or corruption stuff, etc--and if it's Obama vs. McCain, they'll be talking about it as old vs. young everyday anyway.

From the start of Obama's 'transcendental' oratory he has discarded anyone above 30ish, kind of a 'Logan's Run' thing and focused more on an 'American Idol' type of personality cult. Why should that kind of thinking be OK for anyone even if they're a Repub? If Hopey wants to run his campaign like this against anyone, and I do mean ANYONE, he and his ilk need to loose and will.

He used to be an Edwards supporter and used to post a lot of videos and also statistical analysis. Obviously being an Obama supporter has led to his complete moral breakdown.

Are you saying the Kos poster was a sock puppet too?

Interesting point on the week before (it's really a whole week?) It would be interesting to compare all the user creation time stamps.

He does fancy graphs at at his site. He is totally about "the math".

There is book to be written when this election is over. I hope the links to who funded the doctored video can be ferreted out.

And ??? is who initiated — and funded? — the project….

this could be done on the cheap, all you need is access to the movie The War Room, upload to a computer, edit, and upload to YouTube. Not just anyone could do this, be plenty of people have those skills, not exactly a tiny elite.

lambert's picture
Submitted by lambert on

Really, 0 through 4 -- the initiator, the editor, the sock puppets, and the "good friend" could all be the same person.

However, since it seems reasonable that the "good friend" is know to the A list -- otherwise, why the deafening silence on this -- I think there have to be multiple people involved. And the question that implies is whether there was plausible deniability for all the links the chain. I'm guessing yes.

and he said he could "100% vouch" that the video wasn't altered.

That's what's called an "admission." He admitted personal knowledge.

Use of sockpuppets to hide the source of the video is called "conciousness of guilt."

lambert's picture

... I'm not sure about that. If you read his comment, isn't 100% vouch based on a technical examination of the DVD, and not on direct knowledge of provenance of the video?

There are experts at that stuff but is he one of them?

BTW - It WAS altered, and the captioning was added.

It's a chain. The only thing the A listers MUST know is the identity of the "good friend." But each layer could have a cut out for plausible deniability, like so:

A list <--> "good friend" (#3)

"good friend" (#3) <--> sock puppeteer (#2), or someone who knows where the URLs on YouTube are.

sock puppeteer (#2) <--> (#1) the editor, the role for which we are casting JedReport, although he could also be his own sock puppeteer (and is unlikely to be the good friend.

So, it would be nice to connect JedReport to the sock puppeeters (#1 to #2) or the "good friend" to the sock puppeeters (#1 to #2) or, if JedReport was his own sock puppeteer, #1 to #3. Interestingly, JedRedport (Jed Lewison) worked with Cantwell at RealNetworks, Rob Glaser' Internet audio/video company.

So, who does Jed know? Anyone up for some social network analyis?

slowpoke

It takes a week to approve a Kos account. Hat Tip, Basement Angel.

Therefore, the ratfucking was planned at least one week before May 1. (Alternatively, somebody just happened to have an empty Kos account activated, which stinks even worse of an organized plan.)

it's his site, he can access the info used to open the accounts.

There is no doubt this a bogus controversy. The question now is who was behind it.

I will also point out that the same A listers aren't too concerned with getting all the facts about the WVWV "controversy" either. When it turned out the group had Obama supporters in it, the story went down the memory hole.

These are two attempted smears that the "netroots" were supposed to be dedicated to exposing.

Where is the intensity and concerted effort we saw with Tuzla and the ABC debate?

Here's from the second poster, mintosh on The Obama 527 That Used To Be Daily Kos. Unlike SlowPoke, this poster actually has a few comments and posts to their name. The URL is the same:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-MzByUHIzw

I thought this part of their post was interesting:

Some have commented that highlighting this is dirty politics. In general - I agree. I wouldn't want Obama to come near this. He is better than that. But that doesn't mean I have to be better than that. And when Hillary is actively engaged in smear politics - while Obama is actively trying to avoid smear politics - then some of us have to pick up that load and get our hands dirty.

Remind you of anything?

Now, I myself advocate a layered architecture. There are things the campaign should do, things that blogs should do. But the attitude expressed here seems to be a litle more... Broad-minded. Ratfucking used to be one of the "dark arts" practiced by professionals. Now, apparently, it's part of a mass movement. How nice that the Obama folks are bringing the benefits of this "new kind of politics" to us all!

My thoughts exactly -- about the calendar. You know, though, that whoever did the editing has been pouring over War Room just looking for anything that could in any way be detrimental to the Clintons.

And Jed has connections to Indiana -- his mother was born there -- and he considers himself to have insider knowledge about how angry Kantor's dubbed-in slur will make Indianans. (That from a blog comment he made at cobalt6 that has since been deleted.)

the Obama campaign had empowered local offices to represent Obama to the community as they chose to. The obvious point of all of that is to empower bad behavior - he virtually said as much at the time.
