Keith Olbermann's Special Comment from 11-10-2008.
He skirts a point.
If an amendment can take away the right of gays to marry, can take away the right of women to control their own bodies, can deprive citizens of privately-owned firearms, what rights are truly safe, for any of us?

Olbermann denouncing bigots?!
Oh, right: bigotry that directly affects males is serious. All other bigotry...game on!
Of course, what happened was horrible, but there were a slew of other people--non-batshit types--who spoke out about this. I don't want to see this man, whose anti-female hate is so insane he incited murderous violence, anywhere near an issue such as this. It's like watching George Bush talk about the importance of human rights. You can't help but twitch.
What about someone like this?:
Or this

Well, well, well ... so bigotry is ok if it's
somebody we dislike?
He's Olbermann. He's not O'Reilly.
It so happens he's right this time.
We can admit that we’re killers … but we’re not going to kill today. That’s all it takes! ~ Captain James T. Kirk, Stardate 3193.0

What?
When did I say that bigotry was OK? I just commented on Olbermann, of all people, discussing the issue.
Why Is Olbermann Better Than O'Reilly?
Isn't he really the same as O'Reilly? Or perhaps the mirror image of him? Both are obnoxious, both lie to their audiences to push a narrative (as Bob Somerby has documented extensively), both hate women (Olbermann's misogyny is not limited to Hillary). I'm more sympathetic to parts of Olbermann's narrative, certainly about Bush, but he's got no more integrity than O'Reilly and, as a result, is just as destructive to our political discourse.
Given Olbermann's lack of integrity, he's unlikely to change anyone's mind on this issue (or any issue at this point, I wouldn't believe him if he said today is Tuesday). So while I agree with him on this particular issue, I think he's pretty useless as an advocate.
And I think his misogyny does - or should - matter. First, because misogyny is closely related to homophobia, so he can put out all the special comments he wants, his poisoning of the culture against women, hurts the very cause he's screaming about. Second, it's tough for a bigot to lecture about bigotry and be taken seriously. And misogyny is bigotry. Just as homophobia is.
"Do what you feel in your heart to be right -- for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't. " - Eleanor Roosevelt
Why in all these years has it never mattered to him?
Has he ever cared about us or spoke about this before--when it would matter?
Or is it just another pretence for him to act superior and moral and to castigate others while not actually lifting a finger? (and he has turned his whole show over to various issues--and to Obama, so it's not like he doesn't do it as a rule--but never on this--hmmmm)
KO
He is just pandering once again and aiming to deflect the fact that it was Obama's voice and words heard on those robocalls which had to have been sanctioned by the Obama campaign.
This man is seriously disturbed. To attempt now to placate a segment of the population who have been stripped of their human rights is appalling. KO has made no secret of his misogyny in the past and one form of discrimination does not overrule another. They are equal. He is shameless and viewing that tape I have some questions as to his grasp of sanity.
No one gets that emotional over an issue when having one week to develop what he wishes to say. He is still an jackass in love with his "special comments".
