Why does WaPo's David Broder hate democracy?

lambert's picture

Take the package, Dave! Take the package! You're embarassing yourself, and the Depends aren't helping:

A particularly virulent strain of populism has made official Washington altogether too responsive to public opinion.

Er, Dave--If I may call you "Dave"--it's called electoral politics.

'Cause, you know, I didn't see Our Dave clutch his pearls and head for the fainting couch when the Republicans controlled all three branches of government, got us into a war based on lies, let the city of New Orleans drown, sanctioned torture, and trampled on the Constitution through signing statements, warrantless surveillance, and by eliminating habeas corpus.

I wonder why that would be?

Versailles stank because the courtiers pissed on the rugs. The Beltway stinks, WaPo stinks, David Broder's column stinks, and David Broder, in his own person, stinks, and for much the same reasons.

NOTE Surely, this post is worthy of a Wanker of the Day nomination? Or has "the Dean" won the award so many times that the competition is closed?

Wanker of the Last Three Decades, Maybe Four

This is the essence of the beltway attitude toward the great unwashed; it's why the continuously write unhistorical analysis of our past history, and it all stems from their horror at the increasing participation in democracy by the grassroots through-out the sixties and seventies. Then Papa Reagan arrived, and they were transported to their own seventh heaven.

Our task it to make clearer to more of our fellow citizens that this is the attitude they all share, including Russert, and all the Sunday gasbags - a contempt for the very "ordinary" Americans they claim to represent.

Brodering

New word potential; brodering - ignoring the facts and getting on with kissing your masters on the butt.

You know if you let the hordes have a voice, it will ruin things for the master race. Time to get the KKKourt on it and get that voting thing revoked too. Ruth

do i even want to know the context?

i try to avoid giving them the hits. but wow, that's just...snark fails me, and i guess i'm not surprised. but it's ok, we haven't really had that "democracy" thing since 2000 anyway.

Can somebody tell me how it happens Broder gets paid to write?

Because, really, he's just like all the FauxNews talking heads and the rest of the Beltway and the Sunday gasbags -- ridiculously out of touch with mainstream America.

So how is it that he gets a paycheck, instead of outsourced?

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
