Why I Love Blogging, Part 346

This is totally about blogging and how it can help keep you out of trouble, and not about any particular current topic or issue. So, contrast and compare two comments. A Breathless Intertubes Report! That sort of well, uh, didn’t pan out in the actual polls. I’m not picking on JA, I’m just reminding everyone that it’s easy believe the hype, but if there were a simple way to create a “revolution” at the polls it would’ve been done by now.

A different problem here, one that I think really plagues us as progressives. “Life is unfair!” is not the opening line I use to pick up girls or get jobs. And, it distracts our energies from the issue at hand. You make no friends when you essentially lie about ’how bad’ it is for you, and how hard you have to work, when it’s not and you don’t. Or, you do, but so does everyone else. Life is unfair, and thus women and Democrats must stick to pure truth, because even slight misrepresentation comes back to bite us (and never them) on the ass later.

Again I feel like stressing that this is a banana republic now, and when you take developments that way, it all makes a kind of sense. Schlockmeister King introduced me to the saying long ago, “if you can’t afford the game or the zoo, go see a politician!” America is too broke to entertain itself with elephants and circuses these days, so this is what we get instead. Still, real live baboons and actually talented clowns are more interesting, or at least that seem that way to me.

TalkLeft

is it just me, or are other people having trouble accessing TalkLeft. It has been crashing my browser, both Firefox and IE.

TalkLeft....

I know they installed a new server to handle the new traffic they have so deservedly gotten after the Boys on the Blogs* dived into the tank for Obama.

What I would do is clear your browser’s cache and any cookies from TL, and contact Jeralyn if you’re still having problems.

NOTE A cabal of which Atrios is not a member.

Lambert, you had me confused there a second...

Because Avedon is Not Atrios. So you mean not only not Atrios, but also not Not Atrios, right? That should clarify it.

Atrios rules

his comment section is the only place the whole of lefty blogosphere can still meet.

My guess is that Atrios is leaning towards Obama, but he won’t let his comment section degenerate into a flame war.

Clarified

Thanks.

Send Jeralyn

a cheque. The TalkLeft servers are crashing because of the traffic. I met shystee earlier this week and we both noted that there is a refugee crisis in the blogosphere. I know because I am one. I fled both TPM and the HuffPost for my sanity. I was never a fan of the DailyKos because I don’t agree with their tactics, the encouraging of voters to vote for Romney in Michigan is a case in point. That deludes from the argument that it is okay for Hillary haters to cross over and vote for Obama. He has gotten votes that he would not get in a general election, not many but they do number in the thousands.

And why I love blogging is people like Chicagodyke. She makes it all worthwhile. I understand you are part Finnish. I love Finland. Been twice, once in February to go see the aurora borealis and once in July so that I wouldn’t freeze my gay ass off.

TalkLeft is really startin' to Rock....

To use a tired expression. It’s also pretty cool to watch BTD, yeah I know who he really is, slap the hell our of the feces-flingers.

Something GOS can no longer do since many of them are his front pagers. mcjoan…scout finch…meteor blades….georgia10….and thas all folks!

If Hillary wins this thing CheetoLand will dry up and blow away and GOS can go back to his sports blogs.

Big, big secret….tell no one! No one! But OpenLeft still works…

They annoy me occasionally, but I could’ve kissed Matt Stoller this morning for this:

Now, I don’t agree with Markos that Obama has never had to go negative; from where I sit, his entire campaign has had a negative frame. What do you think dismissing the politics of the past is, if not a negative argument, especially considering the overtones of ’old’ in there? It is Clinton who has not had a negative frame until recently, now taking him on with a ’where’s the beef’ argument.

I’d say Stoller prefers Obama, if I had to guess, but he’s not divorced from reality or perspective, which is really all I ask. In fact, I like reading other points of view so long as they aren’t driven by CDS, misogyny, or fanboy mania.

One of the very few times

I’ve agreed with Stoller. I challenged him when he said he was voting for Obama in the DC primary—because Hillary voted for the Iraq War. I guess he forgot about Obama’s inaction on Iraq once Obama hit Capitol Hill.

Stoller has had plenty of moments where he’s taken a vacation from reality.

that's some meaty insider baseballism, kids!

i was just thinking what my mother would make of a thread like this. mostly, ’???’

anyhoo- i love talk left, but i often disagree with them. their comment section makes it worth reading often. and i like their compromise: no trolling, no swearing, and that way people at work can read it. as a law blog, i’m sure that helps them stay widely circulated.

DC, you are really fooling yourself if you think Lord Atrios rules his comment section. he could, but he doesn’t. the flame wars over there have been as bad as anywhere (i’ve been in some) and hilbama wars are no exception. he bans people who’d get his site shut down, but generally isn’t a nanny of the community. not to take away from duncan, but i credit the people and not him for the consistent comment quality there; they are very self-policing and generally don’t let things get out of hand.

i’m just not interested in bashing anyone anymore, not in the blogosphere. we”ve come so far so fast, and in real life, we all variously suck and rock. stoller, GOS, Lord of the Grey reaches, suzie, pam…they are all people i’ve met and would call friends, and everyone has done their part. times change, and politically and with this SCLM we have, it’s impossible for anyone to remain “popular” forever. i hate that such a thing even matters. ahem, issues people. we’re in it to make a difference, not elect a homecoming queen. if i’ve learned there are some people i wouldn’t trust with say, my life, i’ve also learned that there are some people i can count on for individual issues, pressure at the right time, effort when it makes a difference, and putting up a brave public front when needed. everyone has made some mistake, endorsed some stupid policy, said some nasty shit about some undeserving person or group. so what?

this blog sucks, as do they all. i follow the turtleneck in that.

the one critique i’ll make, not picking on anyone in particular, but it’s true that there are too many rich white folks “leading” the blogosphere. i like rich white folks. but there are definitely times when it’s clear: there’s a whole segment of our society that has no or barely a voice in the liberal blogosphere. those people are at the same time those who pay the greatest price for the policy we’re all supposed to be trying to affect. so that needs to change.
