A sociologist has absolutely no standing in politics. That’s about true about brain surgeons, mathematicians, physicists, great plumbers, Picasso, novelists, etc.
Non of the people above have the authority to declare that pork is kosher if blessed by Obama.

Because that’s what we do, in sociology, look at demographics and the impacts of social policy. We study social class, race and gender issues. We study group behavior, social institutional arrangements. We’re the ultimate reality-based community when it comes to social policy. We have a broader outlook than economists and political scientists. Political candidates and politicians would be well advised to look at the results of our studies.
In that context, I don’t what the hell Theda Skocpol was thinking.
