With Apologies to Edwin Starr

On the occasion of his 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Supreme Court, I patriotically submit the following anthem for the Era of the Unitary Executive. Perhaps Bush can get the Nuge to play it this Independence Day:

Law

Law (huh!)
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing! (say it again!)

Law is something that I ignore
For it gets in the way of my pet war
Law means nothing in my A.G.’s eyes
As I send other people’s sons off to lose their lives

(chorus)

Law! It ain’t nothing but a ballbreaker
Law! Friend only to the legislator
Law is the enemy of all my kind
The thought of law, it blows my mind
Handed down from generation to generation
Legislation, litigation
Who wants to follow these—

Laws! (chorus)

Law has shattered many a Republican’s dream
Drove him out of office, bitter and mean
Power is much too precious to spend fighting laws these days
Laws won’t rule my life, I can just sign them away!

(chorus)
Peace Love and Understanding;
Find some other place for them to play.
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But not if it gets in my way

(chorus)

Law! Huh Good God y’all
What is it good for?
Stand up and shout it.
Nothing!
