WKJM springs into action on Palin

So far, the sourcing for a Palin scandal is a local news clip from YouTube and WKJM himself, er, "reporting."

Sure, great, but after the primary, why would I believe a fucking thing Josh Marshall says? He's an Obama 527, not a news gathering organization.*

Readers, anybody got any credible sourcing on this?

NOTE * Bonus points! Marshall compares his story, if any, to "TrooperGate," an ancient fake scandal ginned up by the Republicans to -- you guessed it -- smear Bill Clinton. Oh Bottom, thou art translated -- into the Compleat Villager. It's a sadness.

NOTE Via a bankshot from Jeralyn, whose site is down again. She compares Palin to Eagleton, not, I take it, because Palin has had electroshock treatment, but because she expects Palin to be off the ticket immediately. Since it's very hard to imagine that McCain didn't vet her -- Eagleton was a lessons-learned incident for many professionals, surely--this has the stink of haka. Once again, the A list is smarter and more feral than the DNC. But that doesn't make their narrative any more valid -- or their credibility any greater. I guess we'll have to watch it play out.

UPDATE BTD on the "scandal" Jeralyn and WKJM are pushing:

Palin is arguing that her ex-brother in law [the trooper] was physically abusive to her sister and her sister's children. I do not want to be the political operation arguing on behalf of a wife beater.

Why not? What could go wrong?

truthiness

Palin may have been justified in her actions. WKJM is destroying the credibility of a once great site.

More than TPM credibility at stake

The GOP is good at covering up their absurd attack pack ways when they are exposed. They are also good at making the Dems pay for attempting the same. Should this be another "darkened image" or RFK moment, you can bet the entire Dem Party is going to suffer. As they should, IMO.

We don't need to cheat or lie to win. Didn't the Clintons demonstrate that this week? Instead Dems want to lie with dogs. Sigh.

I Can Hardly Wait

to see the claim that it doesn't matter if the guy was beating her sister, Palin was wrong to fire him. Because you know that's coming. And, hey, even if it's true that he was abusing her sister the firing might've been some sort of technical civil service violation. But if I were a politician I'd rather be accused of that than doing nothing while my sister got beaten because standing up for family being abused is good policy and good politics.

I believe the accusation is

I believe the accusation is not that she fired her brother in law but rather that she fired his boss for refusing to fire him.

It's kind of sick to see the newly minted Obama...

...supporters like Jeralyn quoting WKJM. As if he had any credibility left....I've also seen the Think Progress page on the 'scandal' and I hardly doubt a firing of a state trooper who tasered his 11 year old son, made threats against the governor and illegally killed a moose is anywhere in the ballpark of getting sweetheart government contracts like Stevens. Sure seems like the PB 1.0 is in full force today tying all sorts of loose ends together, well, rather loosely.

Ok

The Republicans got GWB, a former cocaine-snorting draft dodger, elected. Does WKJM seriously think they need to worry about a woman protecting her sister against an abusive husband? Yeah, let's start attacking Palin on that front right now -- it's a political winner.

I see only upside to this pick for McCain. He shores up his conservative base and the mudslide of misogyny already heading for Sarah Palin suggests that he will manage to suppress votes for Obama. He may not get some of Hillary voters with this pick but he may get them to stay home. I'm frankly already disgusted by the media and blog coverage of Palin. She's a contemporary of Obama's with a resume that's not on its face much thinnner than his. Why is the bar set higher for women? (I can hear those arguments now). Danger, Will Robinson!

Obama chose to run a personality/character-based primary and allowed McCain to define the GE that way. It's going to be hard to turn the bus around now to issues but they need to do it quickly because Palin is dangerous to them. McCain can afford to give up the experience critique if he can leverage the misogyny angle to get women disgusted enough to stay home.

McCain knew about the Palin charges

And since PB1.0 is entirely predictable, they are probably hoping for this. Its not that I think the McCain camp is super smart, its that I think PB1.0/Obama campaign is super stupid.

Super stupid or super vicious?

Perhaps the two equate if they think they can bulldoze the GOP with misogyny the way they bulldozed Clinton.

She was right

I mean any public safety director who would keep a known wife-beater-child-abuser on the force needs to be fired.

honestly...

...as distateful as it sounds, I don't think that wife-beating should be disqualifying (unless he's convicted of criminal assault).

But threatening someone's life -- THAT is a firing offense, if for no other reason than as a state trooper, he could use the gun provided by the state to commit the murder.

MSNBO is all over this "abuse of power" now--

something they've never done about Obama or Biden to date.

Is this even worthy of our discussion. Let's talk when there's

a real issue here.

GQM, you got that right. The BO campaign is super stoopid.

The proof of the system is what it does.

What if Palin knows she's there to be taken down?

She has a young child with Down's Syndrome, and she'll have to travel far more than she would as Governor.

She flat out said she doesn't know what a Vice President does; wouldn't someone under serious vetting by McCain's team be briefed on this?

What if she wants to twist the knife in all those feminists who don't come to her aid, when she is attacked for solely being a female?

What if she's told not to broadcast that message to Republican women (who'll respond to the fears broadcast about national security, and stick with McCain), but the swing voters and Democratic women who will see a Hillary pillaging all over again?

Is disgust with the entire male wing of American politics strong enough to suppress the *entire* female vote?

Could our leaders do any worse than the wilding and rhetorical gang-raping they've indulged in since Winter?

If this anniversary of American women's suffrage ends by disinfranching women through psychological warfare, TPTB will consider the depredations of McCain's policies to be cheap at the twice the price. Breaking the back of feminism as a political force is worth it.

She has a sinecure future in Alaska, due to the Illinois-strength corruption of the GOP and the oil money culture. She won't be hurting in any way if she's dumped. I think we'll see Mittens on the ballot, once Gov. Palin withdraws from the race, to spend more time with her precious, battered, unjustly smeared family.

And the Democrats will be the equivalent of Bill Clinton (or Bob Packwood) with his pants unzipped -- too intelligent to give a damn about honorable sexual politics.

Yes.

Shock Doctrine, Shock Doctrine, Shock Doctrine.

I mean concerning the *campaign*.

The Shock Doctrine will be enabled by crashing women's right to work outside the home and have access to domestic violence assistance... and men being encouraged to have guns on their persons, whenever they feel like it, because it's too dangerous out there and their wimmen need protection... and isolation.

Vetting

I don't think for a second that the Republicans would hesitate to pick a VP who had been corrupt or violated state law. The fact that she passed vetting is no proof of whether she did or didn't fire the public safety director for improper reasons.

What I do have great faith in, though, is that she would not have gotten past the vetting process if they didn't think they could absolutely spin the story in their favor.

I do wish that there was some serious reporting on this, because my understanding was that her public safety director's position was one of 'serving at her pleasure'. So can't she fire him for any reason, even a bad one? What grounds was the trooper fired on? (I'm doubting his pink slip said 'for being a bastard to the Gov's sis').

Wife-beating cops?

Really, Paul, I don't think you mean what you just said. Someone who uses violence against a weaker person to enforce power is NOT someone who should have police powers under any circumstances.

"I don’t think that wife-beating should be disqualifying"???

Would you like to rephrase this?

It's immoral and in fact illegal--you're not allowed to beat your spouse.

I've always found you great on people's rights, and particularly recently, on those people who are women, Paul, so perhaps this isn't what you meant to say?

I agree Valhalla.

I think this is going to be taken care of one way or another. And I too wish there were good reporting. I've read lots of stuff. Not all of it the same. But I'm pretty sure the trooper remains on the job. And his boss was fired for refusing to fire him.

Problem is the Gov. is on record as praising the guy's boss, and then she turns around and fires him on what look like trumped up charges. But the manager serves at her pleasure so she could let him go any time for any reason. She can't fire the trooper. Most probably his manager couldn't do it without causing a big fuss, either.

After the Gov. fired the manager, she appointed another man to fill his shoes. He ended up having a skeleton in his closet --some substantial sexual harassment charges against him --and he had to step down. The Gov. gave him a good chunk of severance pay but she'd given his predecessor none.

But don't confuse this with "good news reporting!" I'm just reporting what I've read.
