Several other things here as well:

1. that’s what it was all about: absolving themselves of any trace of racism (while using the racist card all the while), hence the proud display

2. every new round of haka hardens the Hillary voters against BO’s candidacy in the GE

3. Every new victory lap reinforces the appearance of arrogance and entitlement

4. any new claim of the “new democratic party” has the tone of a purge

5. any sense that policy matters is completely absent from all this. Like Lambert said, it’s all about movement.

6. At some point, a movement without substance is bound to fail.

OK, maybe someone has been putting kool aide in my fruit juice, but I actually sympathized with that post. maybe you should go to your local library and check out When Hell Froze Over, the Rise of Doug Wilder. This is that kind of year and Obama is that sort of candidate. The kind of thing that would kill you any other year, with any other candidate, will not work. I can’t describe it, but I really feel we can win.

It is not Kool Aide, I don’t like Wilder or Obama, it has nothing to do with liking, I just recognize victory when I see it.

and yeah, the creative class are a pain. And just so you know how this ends, as Governor Wilder ended up attacking most of his early backers, but his 1985 campaign for Lt. Gov is a real indicator of how this is going to go.

I always thought the Democratic brand name stood for respect, tolerance, and other ’civilized’ values. The link here seems incredibly disrespectful to me in many ways (as has already been pointed out so well, Pokemon cards sounds about right). It reminds me of Bush squandering all the goodwill we’ve had in the world without ever acknowledging that he was granted a stewardship, not full ownership. These guys are likewise spending the accumulated capital of the Democratic party. I don’t think women, gays, union people, or even I suspect Buddhists, are going to be so proud to be associated with the Democratic party, if the values that first drew them in are abandoned.

but it’s not going to happen. there are just too many demographic groups against obama, too much dirt on him yet to be unveiled, too much time between now and november, and up against too difficult of a republican candidate. in other words, dems are the only party that could (and apparently will) so utterly fuck up a monumental gift dropped in our laps like this one.

Many years ago I worked with a bunch of almost illegally intelligent guys (most are tenured in top universities now). Of course, we were young and impatient. To pass through life without spitting and kicking, we constructed a list of people we decided to ignore. Even if a guy on the list would become president, we would still ignore her/him. If the guys turns out to be a serial killer, much the same.
