As an ex-Edwardsian I remain in a state of great higgledy-piggledy over having to abruptly change my mindset and pick between the two remaining candidates, neither of whom is perfect (well, hell, Edwards had a glitch or two if I am being honest here.)
Here’s the thing though: One of them though is going to be our nominee in the fall and I most abso-goddam-lutely want him or her to win in November.
Therefore I say, vote what’s most important to you. Vote hope. Vote experience. Vote guts, or glory, or grim determination. Vote genitalia, or skin, or heart. Or whatever other bodily part resonates most directly for you.
Just do me a favor though, and try your damndest to remember that all the other people voting today, or on whatever day they do, are doing the same. Yeah, it’s “mob rule,” we were warned about that and did it anyway. Oh well. It beats that farcical aquatic ceremony of edged-weapons acquisition thing anyway, don’tcha think?
This is one of those damn test questions where it says at the top “There is no right or wrong answer, you will be graded on the quality of your argument.” And the one doing the grading is you.
Just vote. Whatever else this clip says, they get the ending right.

you come at it from a totally different take than i do, but come to the same conclusion. my motto today is, “may the best centrist win,” and “remember, you’ll be stronger together then fighting each other.”
i do hope today will end the occasional need to follow the campaign coverage. i’d like to go back to talking about news, the occupation, the economy…stuff that is actually happening. so i do wish for a clear winner, even as i don’t care at all which one it is as i suspect they will both find ways to disappoint me personally. natch, i suppose i’ll let my vaginal parts speak for me and say, “give it to obama. he deserves the headache being president in the next four years will be. then hillary and edwards can step in and save us, tossing mr. hope out on his ass like a one-term paper cup of latte that’s gone cold.”
Reverse double-flip with a twist
Who ever gets the presidency is in for a rough ride, all of the disasters (intentional or not, doesn’t matter) are going to get much worse before they get better. I try to not get foily but it appears that since the fall of ’06 it became clear to the Republican powers that everything, wars, economy, everything was headed irrevocably downhill AND they were going to probably lose in ’08 - so, screw it up real good became the plan. Leave the Dems an impossible job, be as obstructionist as possible while out of power while telling as many Big Lies as possible, and then step back in after the public turns against the Dems as they did did against Carter.
Clinton or Obama either one, seems to me the challenge is as much about how to effectively message that the disasters are the Republican’s fault as it is to try and clean them up, because cleaning them up in just four years isn’t going to happen. Trials and convictions are the way, I think; letting bygones-be-bygones won’t do it.

I blame Edwards, the cad, for quiting on us and so making you more fragile than usual.
And maybe I’m wrong, but…..
Been spending a fair amount of time reading in the foreign press trying to get a handle on Afghanistan and Iraq and Pakistan, precious little worth a damn on any of those from US media, and I am getting darker and darker in my mood as a result. Things are bad, they are steadily getting worse, and our “allies” are all convinced that the whole thing is lost and are looking at how to get the hell out before it all collapses. So there’s that.
On the economic front, all leading indicators are very bad. So there’s also that.
And regardless of winning the White House and the Congress, the VRWC
will still control the mass media megaphone and they will pillory the Democrats for everything that goes badly – and everything is going to go badly. So there’s that too.
After four years of “Democrats Lost Iraq & Afghanistan & Pakistan” and “Democrats Destroyed The Economy” on top of the usual BS about “brown people are coming to take your jobs” and “homos are coming to seduce your sons and daughters” and “the terrists are coming to kill everybody,” the only chance that Dems have of holding on for another four years is if they can keep the blame for all the bad stuff on the Republicans. I don’t see Obama’s strategy of Unity
as an effective way of dealing with the challenge, and I think it is very possible that he will be another Carter.
At least we’ll keep the SCOTUS.
