You Can Rape to Make a Baby in Dakota

General JC Christian (whenever I see that name my little soldier leaps to attention!) wrote a letter to South Dakota State Senator Bill Napoli congratulating him on his ability to blame Sioux Indians for South Dakota's 17% infant mortality rate. Bill's the guy who laid out what, in his graphic world-view, would be an acceptable scenario for a woman to qualify for a legal and presumably safe abortion--you can read about that one here.

Anyway, I got to thinking about how South Dakota's new legislation would force women impregnated during rape to give birth to a child that was a result of that rape. I wrote a song, of course.

You Can Rape To Make A Baby In Dakota
(sung to the tune "Red River Valley")

You can rape to make a baby in Dakota
You can force your soldier in and grind around
You can violate a woman in Dakota
And then show off little junior in the town

A woman has no right to her own body
It belongs to the rapist but not to her
If you think this treatment’s rather shoddy
You hate Baby Jesus and the Holy Word

When the mother protests or is ungrateful
We will cuff her to the bed where she lays
She may get mad, surly, even hateful
But she will thank us for the rest of her days

When the Lord comes to slay all the heathen
And rain fire and brimstone on the earth
We will wait for his glory in Dakota
Helping rapists to enjoy forced-childbirth
